The technique I use for this is not very sophisticated. I copy the object and then delete half of one and the other half of the other. However if the object has been "grouped" then you can choose the option of "Create one object per group" when importing an OBJ. Objects that have been exported from poser frequently have this property.

Which is what I meant by "edit," as the program(s) cannot "automatically" split the object -- I should have been more precise in my comments ;)
BTW, Shonner, is Hexagon THAT much better as a modeler than C5Pro? I've been mulling over purchasing Hexagon lately (I know I could use the demo -- & probably will before purchasing, but you really seem to know the product, so...I ask).
Thanks!
To me, Hexagon is faster to model with than with Carrara 5 Pro and I have better control of my polys with the additional tools that come with Hexagon.

As stated above. I have downloaded a model both in 3ds & obj format. Problem is it's all lumped together as 1(welded). How to I split it out into the many parts? If this can't be done in the model room in Carrara, I do have Hexagon, I've just not had the time to learn any of it yet :( Same goes with Silo. To add, I did attempt a conversion of sorts in the model room, but nothing happened. Thanks :)
