Hi all, I'm currently using an A5 (6x8") Wacom Intuos. When I bought it I was on a single monitor. Now I'm using dual monitors and I keep falling off the edge of the tablet (I mostly use mouse mode). Anyway, I'm thinking of upgrading to an Intuos 3 and a slightly larger tablet. My problem is I'm not sure what size. I've narrowed it down to either the A5 wide (6 x 11") or the A4. Has anyone tried either of these, or better yet both? Or has anyone changed from an A5 to an A5 wide? If so did it make much difference? Any feedback much appreciated. Regards Tony

I use the 9x12 and wouldn't trade it for one larger or smaller. Doesn't take up too much space and is good with two monitors although I use a single high-defininition monitor now. Having a couple of input devices really helps with the falling-off-the-table issue. My pen is set to always move at a 1:1 and the mouse is set to always have proportional movement/speed. So, depending on what I'm doing, I grab the appropriate tool.

I also have I3 9x12 and am quite happy with it. The customization for each program with the wacom utility is great because what works for one program doesn't for another.If you use mouse mode you will make larger movements.

Really alot depends on how much surface space you are personaly used to when sketching on normal non digital paper, some artists have a problem drawing by hand with smaller scales, while others dont crave as much space who are great at detail oriented scenes on a small scale, my personal oppinion, bigger is better but so is the price tag!

Thanks for the replies. I'm leaning towards the A4 (9x12). I find the A5 a bit small after using an A3 at work. Though the A3 is way too big. On the other hand Thomas over at Eovia3D downsized from an A4 to an A5. So maybe I should work my A5 a bit longer. Oh decisions, decisions :-) Regards Tony

Yeah, it's tough...I figured I could go down, but not up...so the bigger size. The smaller works for photos, but somethings not so good.I map many things to the smaller area tho and I like the fact that it can change transparently by setting up program prefs in the cp.The first day I had it, using it in windows w/o mapping to the smaller area, I about lost an arm :) I think the bigger is better for drawing, painting, tracing and if you do get larger scale work you need to use. I like the wacom quality...yes they are expensive, but luckily they last and you don't have to buy new ones too often. I actually got a board that size and tried it out first. I do have a huge desk or it would be a problem.(9x12 is doable tho, I think I have a pZ930). I could not imagine bigger tho.

You guys are way out of my price league, but I thought I'd chime in about my Wacom Graphire Tablet. Though it's only a 4x6 area, none of the super-cool tools, (high-rez, angle detection, etc,) I still have a $99 tablet that travels with my laptop everywhere for the past 5 years without a SINGLE mishap! And when I say travel... 42 different cities in 6 months, international and national, various environments (none of which conducive to sanity,) and daily mouse replacement. I use it for CAD work, PhotoShop, 3D, web-surfing, whatever. I wouldn't replace this for any other reason besides that I've worn it out! And I've worn out 3 laptops while using the same tablet and pen. ;)
