Well it needs quite alot of work yet, but I thought you could have some fun figuring out how I do this. You need to look at the centre of the piece at first to see whether you are looking at the inside or the outside. The original is called 'Convex & Concave' circa 1955. and was I believe done as a woodcut.

I would like however some suggestions for textures. The original was in B&W and I want to keep it all one .mat like I did with the RELATIVITY (loads of stairs) a while back.
Thanks for looking.

a scene of the open outside, and you mostly used.. booleans for this? very well done, I like your play with lights here, makes me giddy looking at it too long (which is a good thing cos this is what the pic is about lol), sandstone/marble would make a nice texture, i think? great work either way :)

quite excellent :)

I'm kind of getting dizzy when I look at it, lol, excelent job on it, now the tidious part of texturing and lightning comes...:)

This is messed up...and i think my brain may still be a little less than right after the Dave Matthews Band concert last night...(08.08.2004 at Alpine Valley...amazing.) I think the contact high has seriously affected my ability to understand what's going on there.

re. texturing.....would you consider trying to reproduce Escher's woodcut? Seems like if you had a few mats (or even one) made up of light and dark grey stripes (for want of a better word), then mapped each area individually, and for darker areas compressed the texure so the stripes are closer and it looks darker blah blah blah and turned the texture around until you had the stripes running like 'bracelet' shading on each individual form - I think it could look pretty convincing. You might have to get rid of lighting altogether, and do it all with the material.........

Well thanks to you all for your comments. Fatale: Yup booleans! 'cept for the flag/banner, which is my first attempt at using a terrain to create cloth in the way Zhann does. The sandstone/marble sounds like a good idea. I have plenty of those...and I'm not worried about render time. Pog: Woodcut? Now there's an interesting idea too. It was staring me in the face and has been for about 3 months..LOL. The problem with that is mapping each surface seperately...mmm...brain starts to spin Obviously the lighting isn't what will be in the finished article. I just added lights to highlight an area I'm working on. Interestingly, I accidently gave my lights the same colour as the bryce terracota and the effect was quite surprising. I've still got a few objects to add to this but I'll plod on and see how it goes...anyone know where I can get a couple of lizards? Thanks for looking, guys!

Bryster: I was bored so I made this out of metaballs, a couple of spheres and a terrain for the tongue. If you have Bryce5 and would like it, IM me your e-mail address and I'll send it to you. It's 403k zipped. To make the second one, I just copied and flipped it on the X. It is posable, but only in the sense that you can move the parts around. :^) I know it's not perfect, but at the size you'll be rendering, the flaws probably will not show that badly, and you can postwork it easily. Amazing work so far Bryster! I can't quite get my head around how you do it. I have enough trouble dealing with just four dimensions lol.

@tjohn- those are some great looking lizards!

Woah! OUTSTANDING! Vsvry: Many many thanks! TJohn: Excellent! bryster3d@aol.com Thank you so much! Danamo: I'm up to 6 dimensions now...LOL

Well I was going to say something about this pic making me dizzy but so many others have already beaten me to saying that. This is truely a mind boggling project. Glad you can see those other dimensions. There's no way I could handle doing one of these, heck I get confused as to which way is right and which way is left. I think I have up and down mastered but then I look at you pick and my brain just collapses. Ok so did you get a sense of a compliment in all of what I've said? Well, Damn Excellent job so far!!

Thanks, Ang! Yes, I did get the compliment...LOL And big public thank you to TJohn who made me a lizzard/geko creature! Thanks, TJohn!

I think Pog's idea of using "woodcut" material is a great one, but it might be hard to do short of true UV mapping.

Big public you're welcome to Bryster. Right back atcha. Can't wait to see the final on this. I'm still looking for my next Optical Illusion image. Nothing on the scale of this, though. :^)
