Subject: Particle Illusion 3..anyone have it?

Chrisdmd ( ) posted Mon, 21 June 2004 at 1:57 PM ยท edited Wed, 01 July 2026 at 9:10 AM

Has anyone here taken advantage of the special with regard to Particle Illusion 3? It seems really great and not a big hit on rendering time plus it makes up for some of C3's short-comings with regard to particles. One other thing, I assume it isn't keyed to work only with C3, say if you have another program, it should work with that too, right? Thanks

bluetone ( ) posted Mon, 21 June 2004 at 6:21 PM

I don't have the program but I have used the demo. Particle Illusion creates it's particles over your animation as it plays back as a video. It is a 2D program and doesn't react to your objects. Depth is faked by simply shrinking the particle emitter. You can create areas that will bounce your particles, as if it was actually hitting your objects, (think: shadow catcher odjects in C,) BUT, you have to have a good eye for doing that kind of work to get the same kind of results that you would have if Carrara's particles simply reacted within Carrara in the 1st place. All of that said, you can get VERY good results if you learn the program. This method is the same as most feature films, using a compositor like *smoke or some such. And the interface is very fast with real-time rendering for preveiwing/fine-tuning your effects.

I have version 2 and as of yet haven't felt the need to upgrade to version 3 but I know that I will eventually.

I have been using the demo and love it. What is the special that you are talking about? Did I miss something?

Vidar ( ) posted Tue, 22 June 2004 at 3:11 PM

I have Particle illusion 3 and im very satisfied with the product, but the truth is that i dont use it very often at the moment.what i can say is that it makes a lot of fun to play around with the tool.

Thanks for the responses. As for the special I mentioned tkane18...check out Eovia's website...first page, lower left.

Dont listen to DAIGORO he have a bad reputation when he said that Project Gemini is a great plug in. I dont know if he is saying true about Particle Illusion3

Vidar ( ) posted Wed, 23 June 2004 at 1:36 AM

ha,so i say dont listen to Waldo, this guy knows nothing about anything!

-Waldo- ( ) posted Wed, 23 June 2004 at 3:10 AM

What I dont know about anything? eh bad quote you made. I was perfectly right that Project Gemini used automated union boolean script. Eric said that I am right so I know better than you. So there you got bad reputation by me for workshipping Gemini. There are alot of professional plug ins out there for other powerful 3D application and we do not need garbage plug in like Gemini. I would like to preserve Carrara and its investment for my future animation. nuff said.

Vidar ( ) posted Wed, 23 June 2004 at 3:16 AM

okay it was bad and now lets put an end to this, but what you are did was not better.it is okay when you think that gemini is nothing for you but it is not alright to be that abusive.you just only the negative aspect and nothing else. anyway i can say sorry...sorry Waldo have a nice day and have fun with carrara.

Vidar ( ) posted Wed, 23 June 2004 at 3:17 AM

ups,i forgot the word see.. you just see only the negative aspect..

-Waldo- ( ) posted Wed, 23 June 2004 at 3:19 AM

(Scoffs) I have some cans you probably want to recycle them.

Vidar ( ) posted Wed, 23 June 2004 at 3:21 AM

Particle illusion is very cool anyway,i like to use it and i just bought because it was in a magazine and it was very cheap to upgrade to version 3. its easy to fake things like explosion and smoke and then integrate it in your animation or still image with photoshop or a premiere(as example)or whatever you have for compositing.i think that particle illusion works best with adobe after effects.

Vidar ( ) posted Wed, 23 June 2004 at 2:15 PM

i forgot to say that you can work with layers directly in PI3 and what i really like is that the particle illusion renderer is for free now, this is something like a plugin for PI3 with this renderer you can render images with a resolution up to 8192X8192.much better than before.

Sounds very tempting

Tunesy ( ) posted Fri, 25 June 2004 at 1:30 PM

...Waldo whines about everything. Ignore him ...

bluetone ( ) posted Fri, 25 June 2004 at 4:09 PM

I agree. Waldo whines. If your such a great programmer waldo, then why don't YOU create some pug-in of worth and let US see if WE like them? STOP WHINING! I think I'm not the only one sick of you chiming in with only bad comments. Sorry everyone else for the rant.

-Waldo- ( ) posted Fri, 25 June 2004 at 9:44 PM

You can buy outdated softwares from thrift stores. You also can buy Project Gemini from Eric just like buying from thrift store. Carrara is not made for homeless people, it is supposed to be for professional and commerical use. It is really up to you and customers to either advance or not advance Carrara. I get sick of ignorants people like you who whines about someone who try to put effort to advance Carrara for good investment and business use. I assume that you do not know anything about programmer's time management for projects. I will make plug in whenever I can. And I can put any price on it. I have day job and family to take care and I have home business to take care too. Some igorant people like you don't have a brain cell to understand programmer's side. I am not god and I am human just like anybody else and I do not make everything to satisfy people. It is a reason why dr called it 'SOFTWARE' because it can change anytime to ACCOMMODIATE customers' needs. As a idependant programmer I can comment or shout at anyone that I think would drive Carrara into garbage. Renderosity forum is best place to post and express my point of view.

Vidar ( ) posted Sat, 26 June 2004 at 7:23 AM ยท edited Sat, 26 June 2004 at 7:24 AM

WALDO,i understand your point of view cause a friend of me is a programmer who works as a programmer and runs his own little company,so i know how much work it is to write a plugin or good software that should run on most systems (and the software should run stable of course).i really found it interesting how programs are made and how time consuming this kind of work is(you know all the c++,delphi and visual basic stuff, nothing for me,no time for that).

the only thing that people here in the forum dont like is when someone is so aggressive and abusive, thats all,no one has something against good and fresh ideas that are good for carrara or any other app.there are many things that we users of carrara want to see(i want to see more features for animation, more options in the shader room and a real good uv editor built in)

i can say that i agree with some of your ideas, some ideas are really good and maybe they will be in the next release of carrara 4,who knows.write a letter to eovia and tell us what they think.

Cheers
Dominik
