Entry #4

I drove past that home most every day And never turn to look that way But on that night I had to look At what I thought was a ghostly spook. From his mouth poured evil smoke His eyes glowed red, a frightful bloke. The place he stood, up on the house Was enough to turn me a timid mouse A huge white spiderweb tangled and flew with each moment passing, my fear it grew. Eight spindly legs of enormous size, a big black body did fill my eyes. This spider moved all over the web and lowered itself onto a head that shouted and yelled its wicked taunt as spider and spook did the mansion haunt The fog rolled in over bush and lawn and crawling bodies of demon’s spawn scramble and played around this yard, Too look away I tried so hard. I stopped the car and pulled around Switched into park, stepped onto ground That heaved and moved beneath my feet, In my mouth, fear wasn’t sweet. I stumbled across to a rusty gate Where cockroaches and things I hate crawled around over flaking metal My poor old stomach wouldn’t settle. But interest and curiosity was caught To seek for answers I had been taught So a few steps forward I did take and courage and strength I had to fake. A tattered body from underground Was flung up from a dirty mound Its face was gruesome, black and patchy A bush jumped close with branches scratchy. I knew right then I could not go Into the house so full of woe I turned around, escaped to my car But to my dread did not get far Plastic maggots dropped on my head Squirming rubbery, I fell like lead. A cool wet cloth lay on my brow And brought me back to the here and now. Peering faces, sheepish and concerned looked down in shock as I slowly learned Of that special effect in the tree That rained down insects on top of me. To this day I have never forgot Those shivers of fear at that haunted spot And what had happened that halloween night An eve so scary and full of fright.
