Description

Last but not least, this is another render of this space station. I'll probably add more details and dirt and textures, but I had to get this out to meet the challenge deadline. Thanks for looking. C&C always welcome.

Cool design and excellent modelling. I guess I haven't kept up much with challenges, but this looks like one I may have been interested in (if I'd actually had time to model something, which I havent). Nice to see you uploading your work again.

This project is progressing well. I don't know how interested you are in realism but I have a couple of criticisms about the logistics of the station. 1) Using the windows as reference it doesn't look very big. I feel that if one was going to go through the effort of building a permanent rotating space-station (sufficient of approximating gravity) than it would pay to make it as large as possible so as to service a large number of needs. Considering that an occupant walks on the inside of the 'outer' wall and that there are window (presumably to look out from) the tube section looks little bigger than a train carriage. Secondly, the distance that it is positioned in reference to the Earth is way too far. The idea of a permanent station would be as a platform to launch deep-space vessels from, so why have it so far away? As a station would be most beneficial in geo-stationary orbit (I.E in the Clarke Belt) it would be positioned with 36km of the Earths surface.

Well, as I mentioned before, I was finishing this stage of the model in order to meet the challenge deadline. When I have time to fine tune the textures, etc., I will most assuredly adjust its position in relation to the earth. For now, I was just trying to come up with an interesting composition. About the windows, those too were a product of the rush to beat the deadline. Most likely I will increase the poly-count of the mesh to accommodate smaller windows for the final version. Thanks for your input.
