Description

just wanted to show how houses is build here. they think it high and strong to withstand a hurricane. it not as i see houses like this and after the hurricane they all gone but the poles they setting on. . yes cars can and do drive on the beaches here where i live. i almost got stuck driving onto the beach. once you get past the sand close to the dunes and out clost to the water you ok then. just have to watch out for people which was not many on that day.

interesting shot and commentary, Jock! I don't see them standing up to high winds, high surf maybe, but not high winds.

I've always wondered about those stilt houses... Seems like they would be very vulnerable to high winds. Neat shot of them, Jock!

A lotta lotta traffic looks like on this beach. Bet it difficult to get any kind of insurance on these dwellings. Excellent photo, Jocko!

Nice viewpoint but those houses look so top heavy they don't look as if they would stand up to a decent storm.

Jock, thanks a lot for showing us this very cool capture. I have heard about houses like this but never seen them before, and I'm not sure how well they would survive a hurricane

They have been building high houses on stilts mainly along the shorelines here in Hawaii. Homes stand a better chance of surviving a tsunami, high surf and rising seas caused by hurricanes...or just plane high surf. The occupants usually evacuate the area when some kind of warnings comes and hopefully they can come back to their homes still standing.... Aloha

Great shot, Jock, and these look just like the houses in Galveston. I guess many ocean front cities know they must build this way after learning the hard way from past storms.

OMG, all those houses on stilts. Works great in a flood or high tide. Wonderful backlighting in this cool capture, Jock. And wouldn't driving on the beach mess up the bottom of the car?

Cars on the beach ... I think that's very unusual, in fact ... These houses on stilts are very interesting. People will know why they are on so long stilts ... Fabulous Photo!

I've seen photos after hurricanes where the houses are gone and nothing left but the pilings. Driving on the sand can be risky unless you are in Daytona Beach!
