Description

For fans of Duplex-8 and their front-man, Alex-248, another story set in that android-enhanced universe may be coming up soon. Until then, here’s a 6-layer overlay image that captures (what I hope) is the shimmering, urban vibe of that potential story. As with other overlays in my gallery, this is composed of 6 images, though the two iterations of Alex are (in and of themselves) 3 layer composites and so it’s not too much of a stretch to say that this image contains 12 layers. All 6 of the non-Alex layers are complete nocturnal street shots of Chicago. The green, neon, “Robots” sign hangs in a store window on Sheridan Road in the super-overpriced Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago. It’s the only place I know if that sells a variation of the “Big Trak” toy tank that serves as an early example of household robotics. Though it was a toy tank, shaped like something from Saturday-Morning television for children, it did things like deliver apples and notes to people in other rooms of the house, while simultaneously scaring household pets of the mammalian varieties. I’m sure I’ll be heading to the robotic store at some point in the near future, and it’s a bit nice to see modified photographic evidence of its green sign. Thank you, as always, for peeking in, reading, and commenting, and I hope you’re all having a great week.

Oh, I remember the place Marilyn is talking about! It was that eight-story mall next door to the Hancock. I don't remember not liking the elevator, though. Lord knows, I took enough pictures of it! LOL! Your montage images are just outstanding. You've got such a feeling for what goes, what blends, what works. This is fantastic!

I love your montages, too. I'd be interested to see what you did with a story around that one, but I'm sure you've got so many stories battling for attention in your head that it's a struggle just to keep to one at a time... Still, fun image, and wonderful colors!

I dare say, an establishment that proudly - in green 'neon' no less - advertises itself as a perveyor of robots must be worth a visit. More like a pilgrimage perhaps. If only to take in the rarefied cold warmth of the light and the era to which this sign owes its origans. And the nifty robots There is an electric energy or at least feel to this composition. Of coarse, all this light is formed through the application of electricity so the connection is easy to make. But this energy seems to enfuse the environment about it bringing all places and all times together - as long as they are at night. Buildings, streets, cars people all overalpping and all distinct nevertheless. If I focus upon a small section of the image, I find myself entering alternate portions of the greater dark city. All logically disjointed but seemingly continuous in this place. This place that is a cross roads linking different places and different times. And perhaps I shall meet an ephemeral Alex-248 living in another time and another place telling me about his art as part of Duplex 8. I look forward to their next gig.
