Description

The Black Bellied Whistling Ducks whistle instead of quacking thus their unique name. They breed from the southernmost United States and tropical Central to south central South America. They are a midsized waterfowl species. Length ranges from 19 to 22 inches (47 to 56 cm), weigh 1.4 to 2.2 pounds (652 to 1,020 grams) with a wingspan of 30 to 37 inches (76 to 94 cm). It has a long red bill, long head, longish legs, pale grey head and mostly grey-brown plumage. The belly and tail are black, and the body plumage, back of the neck and cap are a rich chestnut brown. The face and upper neck are grey, and they sport a thin but distinct white eye-ring. Males and females look alike. Some info from Wikipedia. Photo taken at the Wakodahatchee Wetlands with I often call my favorite swamp and is the same place as my previous Iguana photo. This photo will zoom. Not the beast quality but I liked the content. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

In a world plagued with countless sorrows, it's heartwarming to see this shot showing a whole family of ducks all swimming together happily. Never heard of whistling ducks before. Would be most curious to hear the sounds they make!
