Description

Walking north on the left side of Michigan Avenue in Chicago. Time was 4:10 on an October afternoon. Light streaming in from the left (west) was allowed into these manmade canyons through a wide opening made by the Chicago River. Tall square towers are on the Michigan Avenue bridge. .................................................................................................. NOTE: Yesterday's photo was unique because the "burst" in the center of my camera is on the other side of a huge plate glass window of the Inland Steel Building (Chicago). I was attempting to photograph a large piece of abstract sculpture by Richard Lippold called, "Radiant One." If you'd like to know a little about the artist and his work check him out with a quick google of his name and images. Radiant One is composed of aluminum rods and golden wires over a reflecting pool. Next time we visit Chicago we plan to go into the lobby of the building and get some real pictures of Lippold's work. :-) Link to a photo in Tara's gallery about the same subject here.

I would never have solved yesterday's riddle! As Tara well knows, this above is a vision of hell for me! But it's an excellent, if oppressive, photo.

I'm thoroughly enjoying you going back in your files and seeing these older shots with new eyes. :) I remember this afternoon in Chicago. It was maybe an hour after you took this shot that you, Chip, Corey and I had to take cover during a rainstorm burst, and I learned something about Midwest rain! LOL! LOVE the light on the Michigan Avenue bridge towers. This is terrific! :*

A cool street scene of the Windy city and home of the 2015 Stanley Cup Champs, Chicago Blackhawks. I see you're using your Olympus, I thought you jumped to Canon a while back?

Yes, the light streaming in between those buildings is what makes this an especially appealing urban landscape. Wonderful shot...

It is hard to believe that light can make it all the way to ground level and create such a warm October scene. Richard Lippold's sculpture fooled me - an excellent photo!

Oh! So that's what the star was in your previous image! Clever! And I would image sunlight doesn't often shine on these big city canyons. Nicely captured.

Thanks for enlightening us about the sculture in the other photo. . This shot is also awesome although in a different way. Somehow you managed to catch the essence of the feeling in that cityscape. I was not a bit surpised to read Tara's cmment about the rainstorm that happened a while later.

Wonderful capture Bill! very cool scene however... ...I tell you this! If I were to have to drive through this area, it would be in a M1A2 Abrams with a support group behind me! If you can't tell, I don't like traffic; more than I don't like driving in any condition!

The warm glow of the sunlight seems to make the otherwise cold and impersonal feel so often associated with a large downtown area seem more inviting and friendly. A wonderful photo, Bill!

While this s a very well taken and excellently detailed and lit shot, I have become somewhat how can I put it, anti.. This is too much, too much concrete, too much humanity, too much everything except what matters, air, light and green.. I could go on but humanity (or the lack of it on the whole) has just turned me into a ranting machine and I really don't want to do that to you Bill.. Its NOT you.. Its not a single person.. Its the whole... There But, the photo, as always you have become a masterly photographer, better than I could ever be.. Luck is not skill.. And most of mine are luck.. Rob
