Description

Been trying to play catch up on some things and figured I should post some of the stuff I've finished. This is one that I did for Mercenary Studios WAR 2011 Contest. I usually don't do contests, but this one piqued my interest. No love from the judges, but they had some killer entries to choose from, so it was a fun one to pull together nonetheless. There's actually about 75 figures in this scene, though most of them ended up being obscured once stuff started exploding and catching fire. The foreground halfway through the mid ground use plain old M3 figures with the Modern Desert Soldier gear and then they transition to EPICI's low-res desert soldiers. All these guys are going up against about eight BEO QUAD's, but unfortunately are losing in a big way. The image was built from front to back in Vue 6 Infinite in 25 individual scenes, each of which were rendered in Vue 9.5 Infinite and composited and post worked in Photoshop CS5. The original image is rendered at 6000 x 4500. Thanks for looking!

This is really impressive and reminds me again that all those details are important, our eyes and brains see them, even if we aren't consciously aware of it. This is epic!

I've really wanted to do a series of shots like this for quite a long time. Realizing people are rendering thousands of battle scenes in real time in online gaming, every hour, a still image has to up the ante to something the online experience can't deliver. I think you've done a great job here and by seeing it satisfies my thirst for doing something similar. Thanks for that 'cause I'm nowhere close to having time to do it. : ) Constructive criticism? The dynamic action is so great with characters and helmets flying, energy beams and helicopters criss-crossing and then your Star human is limp and static in the center. Yeah, I know, I wouldn't last long either if a BEO picked me up by my head. The cause is justified but his profile lines up with the BEO leg and it dampens the action, IMO. Yeah, I know, lets see me do better. Fair enough. Since I can't put up I'll have to shut up. For now. cheers
