Description

Might be a bit disturbing, i found no other way expressing it but i felt like saying it and theres a story to it. At the moment i have this job transferring data of old personal registers into a database. This starts up 1876 and is devided into birth , marriage and death registers. I started with births .. over to marriage and finnished doing the deaths. Now there was this guy (names changed) ill call him John Smith. He made a living by making brooms. Every year he showed up at the townshall reporting his new child born. I thought how merry , nice life , huge family etc .. fine time. Unfortunate now im doing the death registers. Not one of the 13 births i recorded 1876 lived to be older than 4 years. Of 22 recorded deaths 1880 17 where chlildren younger than 7 years. John Smith showed up one June ..reporting his 1 year old son dead, in juli he came reporting his mother had died..and in August he showed up reporting the death of his 2 year old doughter. He didndt have a shrink helping him over the hard times , he had his wife , maybe 1 kid left and his job , broom making. But he carried on , year for year , living .. and trying to give life. In my eyes, him and his fellow men are heroes , we , being their heritage, should honour them , and cherish life, it is a precious gift hard fought for. Think about it Dj

Great realisation of a heart-rending story. Just goes to make you think, doesn't it? What if they had just given up. None of us would be here now.

It certainly does put our mortality, and the finite existence we have, into perspective. At the end of our days it seems that we will only be remembered by the love we leave behind when we are gone. Remembered if only for a brief moment.

I totally agree with you Dj. They really had it hard in the old days. Sometimes there were no doctors where people lived, and then they couldn't afford them if there were. They didn't have innoculations for diseases, aspirin, nothing. We should always pay homage to our ancestors. This is a fantastic dedication! Hugs my friend! xo's! V (:

Yes, there are always humans and their triumphs and miseries behind all statistics, aren't there? Like very much the way you expressed it visually and with the written word.

It's the way of life to fight for life. Things like this really make you realize how easy we have it today. Some people today will snap and become upset over the most trivial things, while the man in your story found strength to go on in the face of so much loss. It really puts things into perspective.

Sounds like a depressing job. Sometimes reality is very harsh but each person deals with their own share of reality each in their own way.
