Description

I was chatting with a friend of mine today. We've had many such chats, and I've enjoyed them; but today took a different turn. There was a tension, almost unnoticeable, pleasant at first... We make mistakes; I've been around long enough to make quite a few. Each mistake teaches me something...each painful step in life fills in a background, adds to a foundation...demonstrates another weakness I need to patch. Today seemed to be one of those days: It started out diamonds and glitter, bright sunshine and rainbows! Then I noticed I wasn't catching the meaning of some of what she was saying. Tension. This happens often with me: I was autistic as a child (and may still be), and have a problem hearing speech, so it's not uncommon for me not to understand what's said...but this conversation was online. It showed me that my lack of understanding had to do with na

One phrase comes to mind "beating around the bush" Sometimes you just have to come straight out and say what you mean, there's less chance of misunderstanding and hurt feelings that way. Games have winners and losers and when the rules are clear, no one wins.

The tension will continue until you speak again. I always hate waiting for it, but it happens to me all the time. True friends will never part over simple misunderstandings.

As it turns out, I was all worked up over nothing...I'm still a child in some ways! :) Thanks, "Robin", for your comment! (Is that the right "Boy Wonder?" :)

Dear Mike, I think we all get into tension mode at times. I'm certainly more guilty of it than others. And always remember that at times, the tension you feel may not realyl be directed at you at all. We live in a tense world - and sometimes all of that can build up and spill over to others! I'n still playing catch up. I'm so far behind on everything but I am making a little progress - and things will be better for a lot of folks in the future!! All My Love, Meredith

I am a form believer in being blunt and to the point, avoids all the silliness :-) You wrote this out very well, it's hard sometimes to write about something when it involves the person writing.

Clarity is the enemy of wonder. Nicely written.
