The green heron is one of my favorite birds because of its interesting coloration. I shot this photo on April 19, but did not look at it closely until today. I had taken lots of photos in a couple day span, and had not really looked at them closely because I got to doing other things. Right now, these birds are breeding, and I am hoping to be able to get photos of some baby chicks in the near future. I have never seen green heron chicks so I am excited about the possibility. I know where there are several nests, but all of them are very high in trees. I will not see any chicks unless I find some nests that are lower. Probably there is not much chance of that, but I will look.

Super shot, the flash really brings out the feather detail and color. I like the many subtle colors in it's feathers. Thanks too for the interesting comments, I hope you find some chicks!
