Description

I nearly called this guy's passing to the day. Squirrel was always odd. When we first saw him in the 'holding tank' at a local pet store, Mrs. Weesel grabbed him saying: We've never had one like this before! Referring to his coloring. He was a silver mitt: white booties on each foot, and look at the EARS on this guy! Looked as if he could hang-glide with them. He never did grow into them!! We also never stopped saying 'never had on like this before' either for the next seven years. I don't think anyone could possibly have had one like him before. Physically, he was a knock out. Always took a good photo. Mentally I'd swear he was a drop out, but that could just have been slyness ... or thickheadedness. Squirrel was never a problem, just weird: talking to himself, tapping his teeth on the floor, tapping his teeth on your foot, poking his nose along your ankle, getting underfoot, stashing newbies with the toys or just terrorizing them. He was a presence. He was named for Rocky the Squirrel and he had a brother named Moose, soon changed to Mousse. Thus we had the ultimate pairing of Mousse and Squirrel for six years. Mousse passed on early 2004. No one seemed to notice. I mean, how much can you miss a big white furry slug???? Well some of us do! if not you $#!@ fuzzbutts As Squirrel aged, he became more furry and more playful. Hardly a sick day ever. He was always known for being 'inoppertune.' Try to read or watch the Boob Toob in bed. There he would be: climbing the blankets and going below the sheets to start that Bloody Awful NOSING! Thus he acquired one of his nicknames: Old Nosey (sorry Duke). Olde Weirdo figured quite often as well. All that said, you can bet we miss him. When did he pop off? Just as the moving van people were finishing their job thus prompting me to run across the city to find a vet who could be bothered to do the right thing for the old fart. (What is it with some of these people? They think animals have to hear the call during business hours with advance appointments!! Thank you Dr. P ever so much for ensuring an easy trip for our friend. He went peacefully; like the Mousse.) Frankly, I figured he'd last a few days to make our cross-country drive even more exciting. (Try to find a ferret-knowledgable vet 500 miles away from 'home.') Yes, Squirrel, you are missed. TW

So adorable! So sorry for your loss. My doggie, SammyB, and I stop by the ferret cage in PetCo every time we go. He really enjoys slobbering on the cage and I stand there wondering if I should give in. Maybe someday.

2 yrs has gone by since "Bub" and "squeaker" were my best friends to come home to, trying taking a shower with 2 voyeurs watching, try eating dinner with 2 sets of begging eyes looking up at me. I had no desire to replace them as I'm not one to just take something in place to just have it as so many do, I have 2 sugar gliders(6 months old) which I passed down the names to them-so Bub and Squeaker live on....
