Description

_______ ...don't forget to pay a visit to this famous Roman landmark!...Standing 26.3 metres (86 ft) high and 49.15 metres (161.3 ft) wide, the Trevi Fountain is the largest Baroque fountain in the city and one of the most famous fountains in the world. The pure water of the fountain comes from a source outside the city of Rome, it used to be brought by means of an aqueduct built in 59 BC, that delivered the water initially into the Baths of Agrippa, a son-in-law to Julius Caesar, the Emperor.
________The project of the fountain designed by Nicola Salvi, dates back from the XVIIth century, under the reign of Pope Urban VIII, and the monument was eventually completed in 1762, by architect Giuseppe Pannini.
________Coins are purportedly meant to be thrown into the fountain, using the right hand over the left shoulder, that is to say turning one's back to the fountain ! An estimated 3,000 euros are thrown this way each and every day. In 2016, an estimated €1.4 million (US$1.5 million) was thrown into the fountain. The money has been used to subsidize a supermarket for Rome's needy; however, there are regular attempts to steal coins from the fountain, even though it is illegal to do so. To me, this place at the very heart of Rome epitomizes the eternal beauty of a city that used to be the capital of all Western forms of civilization, way before the 'New world' was discovered. What's more, it's a most wonderful introduction to the 'dolce vita' feel everyone can sense when ambling through the narrow streets of the city-center.
_______Thank you so much for your comments on my former Cinecittà studios photo, taken earlier in Spring this year...Have a nice sunny weekend! Zoom in for the details and the atmo!
