Description

Here (finally) is page 37 of the Girls' adventures. It's been a bit of a space since the last page, mainly because I have a ton of stuff going on behind the scenes! Speaking of which, I posted a short BTS on YouTube a few days ago you can check out if you like. I've been attending a lot of webinars in my constant quest to learn new stuff, improve on what I already know, and just generally see how much stuff I can jam into my head before it explodes. And of course, I'm always in the process of writing, re-writing, re-re-writing, and adding new twists to the story. I've not encountered any flying monkeys or talking tigers yet, but hey... Who knows what's around the next corner? One thing I've become aware of in my poking around, is that the font I've been using for speech - Comic Sans - is not looked very favorably upon in professional circles. I've not really come across a specific reason for this, but the best information I've found is that it's just been over-used for virtually everything. I've been looking at some different fonts, and am trying the one I've used for speech in this page. It seems to be easily readable, and flows nicely. It's called Houschka Rounded DemiBold. I've also been working on some stuff for the T.N.A. Redbubble collection - more to come soon. Thanks for the great shout-out, Steve! Thanks for stopping by, and for all your awesome comments and support! I appreciate it more than I can say! Now where did I put that bottle of Sljivovica? 😆😜 The New York office is the 'Skyscraper Balcony' by TruForm in the Rendo freebies section. It even has a basic indoor part which I'm using for the office. Thanks to TruForm for some awesome products and freebies. Facebook Twitter Girls From T.N.A. Website Girls From T.N.A. What a boat!! What a crew 😄

We'll be waiting and btw...I do like that text. It's nice and uncluttered but 'different'. 👍

One thing they won't be saying "We need a bigger boat!" Ha ha!

The girls are having fun, though I suspect things will get more serious soon...

My take on the font issue: I agree that Comic Sans is one of the most overused fonts in history (along with Times New Roman and Helvetica). However using it in a comic seems fine to me since that is what it was designed for. The overuse of it in other places is why some graphic designers have taken a strong dislike to it. If you like it keep using it, if you prefer the alternative you have tried here use that.

Yeah, that's pretty much the vibe I keep running into re: Comic Sans. I've seen lots of comments like "No professional would use Comic Sans" and so on.. Of course, I'm not really trying to sell this story - it's mainly just for fun. Buuuut... If the opportunity ever presented itself... Having said that, I do like the look of the Houschka font, so that's what I'll stick with for now, anyway. I put up a little font comparison over at Behance, but haven't had much feedback as yet.

That ship is awesome. The girls will have a blast traveling, now. I'm amazed and fascinated by the reflections in the windows.

Go easy on the Sljivovica, or it won't matter what font you use, we won't be able to read the tipsy babbling. lol

I noticed the font right away and find it easier reading. Not by a lot, but anything easier on these eyes is a bonus. Comic sans is perhaps a little too much like someone's handwriting, so this is a nice luxury improvement.

A bit of a fun page for the ladies. And maybe some jealousy for the ones who can't check out the boat yet. Like me. 😁

Lots of strange things can happen at sea, as Dan knows so well, I hope their new boat survives this adventure.

As long as we keep Dan off the bridge, I think we'll be just fine! 😄😁😆

What a yachting adventure you've done agsin with this great prop Rod. You are such a master at these pages of excitement with the girls.

I see you changed your format on word balloons and font. Came out super. I did the all white in past but liked your idea on the semi transparent ones. Both are still awesome. Each panel rocks my friend. And agree they won't need a bigger boat. Hope their maiden voyage goes well.

Love how you employed TnT in last two frames.

Each page brings more interest too draw you in. The new font is very readable just like comic sans one I say and just as enjoyable. Not sure where I'll go when I start working on my next page.
Not sure why that font is non professional? Guess I'll ask Google and see if I get a answer.

I can't begin to imagine how large a user's manual would be for a baby ship like this one...masterful work on the strips...like the new font too--Houschka Rounded DemiBold what a crazy name. By the way, did you ever do a follow-up on that exploding package, or did I miss it?

RodS

7:59PM | Mon, 25 March 2019

Actually, the exploding package was in Steve's spin-off with the Colorado Girls TnT.. Waiting to see that outcome myself.. LOL

My only concern about font is "IS IT READIBLE?" To a lesser extent the room it needs in a word bubble. I know you have a tendency to put a lot of info into your word bubbles so maybe a slightly tighter font and a little less bold. The thing is you do not want to have to change font size to fit everything in the bubble as the need arises. Just a thought from a fan who wears glasses (LOL). That Boat is one heck of a prop, Rod. Your band of ladies is getting larger by the minute. . . my own is up to 11 (aaaarrrrgggghhhh!) What's a guy to do? 😁

RodS

3:54PM | Tue, 26 March 2019

What's a guy to do?? Good question, Dave - I guess we just have to grin and bear it (or is that bare it? LOL). Oh, the things we go through for our art..... 😁

Outstanding work! These images really pop off the screen. Oh, the Sljivovica is on the shelf behind the acetone and next to the paint thinner. Remember not to inhale.

Wonderful story and images!!!!

Please, step away from the Sljivovica. Not only does it taste like Flying Monkey, it causes you to SEE them where they are not (always a dangerous situation!!) and eventually, with enough consumption, turns you into a Flying, Flinging Monkey. The Wicked Witch of the West didn't need magic when she had a bottle of Sljivovica available!! ;) Talking Tigers, being thousands of percentage points classier than Flying Monkeys Doubtless depend on something other than Sljivovica, but your Mileage, etc!!

LOVE The new font.

Great panels they each have a great angle on the girls! Didn't think the other font was bad but this one seems very clear and readable. Hope you still have time to fly your drone !!!

Amazing work on the page Rod ! Once again I marvel at the thought you put into each of the panels. What interaction to create, how to pose, what POV to use, what will be the details present in the environment of each panel. Really like the different camera angles and the reflection on the glass panels. Love the way you can see reflection of the harbor master in the boat and the background dock. I have seen so many renders here where people forgot that we can see empty environments behind the camera on reflections... I think I have also done those though now I make sure if I have reflective surfaces, I put proper environment behind the camera too so that the reflections look proper. I specially like how you hurdled them all looking at the pictures of the boat in the last panel.

Now that the girls have a super yacht, I hope they can find those flying monkeys and talking tigers in some mysterious islands 😁 ! They should soon be off to some interesting adventure in this huge yacht of theirs :). The girl with the wolf would like that a lot ;). Miho sends her love to you and the girls.

The font looks good. I generally go to https://fonts.google.com to pick up fonts. You can type your text there and see how it looks in each of the fonts. They have some really neat and clear ones. You can download the fonts and can install them in your PC. I prefer the san serif type of fonts to serif types.

Keep on learning Rod ! That is the way to live. I hope by end of April I would have created my first clothing item for Miho using Marvelous Designer. Trying to learn that software now.

Although large, that sure isn't a friggin' aircraft carrier. It's still just a boat. Otherwise, a terrific strip, and I find the font just fine. Lots of labor in this.Momentous.jpg

Yes! I like this new font you used for this episode! It does read easier and you can place more dialogue on each cell. Makes for a much cleaner looking product! I vote for this font. Very fine chapter! Love all the dialogue and illustrations! Most excellent work! Please don't squeeze too much to information into your head though! I don't want you to complete with that meteor that exploded over the Bering Sea!
