Description

Captured 8/20/11, midday, at a local auto show. Second and last of the series. Better viewed full size, especially the warm, plush upholstery. The company had a close relationship with the more renowned Oldsmobile, as follows: The REO Motor Car Company was a Lansing, Michigan based company that produced automobiles and trucks from 1905 to 1975. At one point the company also manufactured buses on its truck platforms. REO was founded by Ransom E. Olds in August 1904 (the name of the founder also lived on in the Oldsmobile). Olds held 52 percent of the stock and the titles of president and general manager. To ensure a reliable supply of parts, he organized a number of subsidiary firms like the National Oil Company, the Michigan Screw Company, and the Atlas Drop Forge Company. The company's name was alternately spelled in all capitals as REO or with only an initial capital as Reo, and the company's own literature was inconsistent in this regard, with early advertising using all capitals and later advertising using the "Reo" capitalization. The pronunciation, however, was as a single word (like "rio"), never as letters ("R-E-O"). Source: www.wikicars.org/en/REO_Motor_Car_Company So this auto is akin to the "Merry Oldsmobile" of song. Farvel, thankx for the look-see, and for any and all favs and laudatory comments.

I love the shiny finish on this one. The seat looks almost like a living room sofa.

another collection of sights many of us will never see. I knew of Ransom Olds from that famous song (I had to learn it); I think it was a theme song for one of the old variety hours---the Milton Berle show, maybe? But I didn't know how inventive Olds was, business-wise. Again, you have a sequence, from a clear "unimpeded" view to one with the doors open---quite striking, here, because of those knock-out leather interiors. (Well, I assume that's leather.) To your usual interior shots, which look like very fancy waiting rooms. To the elegant & spindly driving section. I must say, sitting in those "couches" must've been like sitting in a CEO's office. And one of your interior shots shows us the mirrored door in full reflection: Nice choice, a real contrast between inner & outer. Finally, that steering column & dashboard really speak of an age when driving was slow & leisurely. More fine car captures from you, and deft handling of the background as always...

Some of the shops and signs behind the cars are almost as interesting as the cars themselves. Great shots.
