Description

Captured 7/14/11, early in the morning, within trekking distance of my antediluvian abode. ZOOM for better detail. How do they do this? That power line is easily at least fifteen feet above the ground on a busy street. Can't be sheer luck just tossing up two pairs of shoes and having them hang next to each other. Then again, maybe with a lot of practice they can do it. And this is not an uncommon occurrence; I see it every so often around town and in neighboring communities. I can only think of it being done by either a very tall person with long arms, a normal sized person with a long hooked pole, several persons sitting or standing atop each other's shoulders, or with a ladder, a cherry picker, or by supernatural levitation. Someone in the audience probably knows the answer. Auf wiedersehen, thankx for dropping by, and for any and all favs and complimentary comments.

I've no idea how they do it, but I've read that sneakers through over power lines like this is a signal for drugs being sold nearby. I assume that different brands of sneakers probably mean different drugs available in the area where the shoes are.

Great capture. I do not know anything about the drug thing however if you can get a closer shot does any of them look like they fit a 12 EE.

It's actually quite easy when the laces are tied together. Bad thing though, sometimes people get ladders to try to get their shoes back and wind up electrocuting themselves!

I see them often in the city's poorer areas, which seems odd given that you'd think they NEED their shoes there. Oh well, as far as how they do it, I imagine if you hold one shoe with the other tied to it, and underhand it high the weight of the shoes would do the rest. Great shots of this example of feral youthful shenanigans!

Yeah, I've got a pair of these hanging on a line near my house. Hate when people do this.

I wonder if they were their own shoes they threw up there or were they stolen just to annoy someone. An interesting collage.

This had been done for years by draftees in the Army...as they reached the end of their enlistment, they became short-timers...they then threw their boots over a nearby wire in celebration of getting out. Of course this practice has died down over the past 38 years (1973 saw the end of conscription). I too have seen this around lots of towns...kids do pick up things like this from fathers and grandfathers. Good pics my friend.

I HATE this habit..we don't have too much of it here, but there is a clutch of them outside a Methodist church nearby.. So not sure about the drug selling.

This is something I've already seen here, in front of a U.S. barracks. There stands a tree, on which hang about 100 pairs of shoes. No idea why the soldiers do that. Great capture.

I like your new avatar Harry and I can not shed any light on how this is done. I have heard that this is what happens to a new kid in the neighdorhood. Maybe two brothers were hazed at the same time. Great shot and I don't see them as often as I used to. Dana

I have never seen this anywhere, but sounds pretty wasteful and stupid to me, to each his own I guess. I agree with Dana cool never avatar.

I have always heard that when you see shoes hanging up on lines like this, it's a 'mark' as to where a drug deal just went down. I've never seen how it was done though :) Nice find & capture Harry!
