Description

The journey continues..... This scene was taken from an overlook on Mt. Magazine, near Paris, Arkansas. At somewhat over 2700 ft, this is the highest point in Arkansas. I know some of you folks in Colorado or California, or Washington would consider this a really big hill (LOL), but it still affords a magnificent view. The atmosphere today was considerably more misty than yesterday, so I didn't attempt to make a panorama out of it - although I did shoot this scene the same way. Tomorrow, it's off to Eureka Springs. we're in Clarksville tonight, and the WiFi is considerably better. And no.... We didn't take the Last Train (for all you Monkees fans...LOL!) I just picked up another cutie - RM Cynthia - with that 10.00 certificate! Hope everyone is having a good week! Thanks to all of you for all the wonderful comments on my last post! You guys ROCK!!

Of course you know I had to go look it up ... !! Mount Magazine was so named because one of the outcrops there was said to look like a storehouse (aka magazin ... this was in about the 1600s when the French were wandering around down there.) That mountain is now known as Mount Nebo. The whole range was called the Magazines for a while, with what is now known as Mount Magazine being called Tomahawk Mountain, and then Revolee(or Reveille). In the 1800s the place-names started changing with the arrival of permanent settlement, and all the individual peaks aquired names with Magazine going to the highest peak. Notice how good I'm being about calling them mountains and peaks! :D Did I mention how pretty it is there? I love your photo. Beautiful scenery!

Looks like I need to check out Paris Ark. This is beautiful and the Monkees reference, I'm still laughing. I'm enjoying your vacation through your fotos. Your heading for more fun just a tip use the tralleys they are awesome they now where everything is and you don't have to fight the narrow streets and traffic.
