Description

Vegetables so fresh, picked the evening before or at sun up in some cases. Notice the ladies carrying umbrellas that are open even though there is no rain. Well this is the land of the "Parasol" for some reason strange to Americans they prize light colored skin, so they do all they can to keep even the diffused light off of it. Check out the full size image. Enjoy.

I understood that the darker skin was a sign of a peasant in the old days. Only the working class has to labor in the sun, turning the skin dark with weathering. I see several parasols here, but mostly carried by the older ladies. Love the detail in this shot. So much to see. (long beans are a favorite of mine)

Light skin color was prized by the ancient Egyptians, too. Nobility could work indoors for most of the time, this did not get "bronzed". The women especially loved their light skin. So, too, ancient Greek/Cretan/Achaean women. The "better class" never bronzed, let alone forgave a bit of tan. Even in Zulu culture (as I understand it), lighter skin is valued. Odd (or is it?) that light skin is prized thru-out history in most cultures? Great photo!
