Description
I have no idea what this growth on a tree trunk is, but I took this photo last summer at the Devonian Botanical Gardens in Alberta. I have another which I will post tomorrow.

Well I can tell you this much, it is a fungi/mushroom. However I can't find it in the book I have. But that just means it's not one they included in the North America version. Excellent find and capture!

It's a bracket fungus as you know, and I think it's in the family that was used as tinder in Britain. When they dry out they make suberb firelighters! It's a superb pic!
