Description

Foto scattata a Coltano ( PI ) , in una mattina di foschia ,a colori e trasformata in bianconero con un effetto di simulazione pellicola infrarossi. Photo Location Coltano (PI), in a morning mist, and turned into black and white in color with an effect of infrared film simulation (notes on the center radio are just informative, it is not the building in picture) Coltano, a hamlet of the town of Pisa, as well as numerous archeological evidence, is known to host on its territory, the longest motorway bridge in Italy with its 9619 m long (between Coltano and Collesalvetti). In the past, was established in the first four decades of the twentieth century's most important center of Europe for radio communications transcontinental and hosted during the Second World War as one of the toughest camps controversial allies in Italy. The Center Radio Coltano William; arches Nobel Prize for Physics in 1909, was the founder of the Center Coltano radio, and he is due the first test broadcast in 1903 with a transmitter to spark this fact, which was originally owned by the House of Savoy, lent itself very well to long distance transmission, as swampy area and as such, to minimize leakage of the signal. Completed several years of delays caused by bureaucracy, the center was officially opened by King Vittorio Emanuele II with a transmission to Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, November 19, 1911 The Center allowed to communicate daily with the lands of Africa (especially colonies in Eritrea, in Nassau) and with Canada. For the management of the radio station was built the first building, "Build Marconi", containing all the control panels and control the 16 antennas as high as 75 meters, designed by Marconi in mind the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Chronicles remember how, looking from Pisa to the south, the landscape was quite different from the current one. From 1919 to 1924 was employed by the Royal Navy to extend communications to ships at sea, thanks to a widening of the antennas. It was in 1920 that was built a large antenna "tent" of 240 meters on each side, supported by pylons 250 feet high, simultaneously, in the area of Migliarino, was made an additional reception center. For a certain period of time the management was entrusted to a private company, the "Italian Radio", until in 1930 the Center came under the direct management of the Ministry of Posts. At that time the Center was the heyday: it was used as an important hub for the telegraph and radio communications with ships and ground stations around the globe, enough to be considered one of the most important European centers. In 1931 he left the radio signal from here that the lights in Rio de Janeiro, Christ the Redeemer, as a demonstration of Marconi's reliability and importance of intercontinental radio communications. The Center, which until 1940 was regularly used for communications with the world, saw the antennas completely destroyed during the Second World War, while the Marconi house suffered only minimal damage, but the antennas were never rebuilt, and the structures do not were used further The accompanying notes are taken from Wikipedia Good day and good weekend Thanks for looking and for previous comments

Informazioni molto interessanti. Bella immagine! Very interesting information. Beautiful image! The infrared film saturation, gives it a lovely and surreal look. It is interesting to think what it must have looked like when the antennas were still there. This has beautiful atmosphere, with the dramatic clouds, the dark and beautifully defined tree and the textured building. It has very attractive large windows, the inside must have been filled with light.

This image almost looks haunted. To me, it conjures a building that suffered indirect bomb damage from the war; perhaps a building in a post-apocalyptic future...(where are the zombies?). Man, what a photo!

Colpo splendido. Wonderful history how fast things come and go these days. I love the infrared technique. It looks especially lovely on this old building, and the great old tree next to it, leafless but still standing, like the building. Gorgeous shot.
