Description

These days, in the sunset of my life, when the sun dips below the horizon and darkness covers the Earth like a cooling blanket, I love being outside with my little terrier. However, it wasn't always that way. My twin brother and I were terrified of the dark until we were in very early teens. After that being in darkness still made us very nervous until we were around sixteen. Back when we were about fourteen, our chief entertainment was going to the movies, which were cheap and television in our part of Kansas was still a fairly new and expensive thing to get. One of the movies that we saw was "THEM"--and it made walking back home in the dark scary all over again. It was a 1950s Sci-Fi B movie in black and white. We must have jumped or run away from every little sound or movement all the way home. Do any of you remember it? As I recall, it was filmed in a desert setting but I decided to go with this one. Thanks for looking. Comments pro or con are welcome. Jeremy CREDITS: Vue Pro Studio 6 and PSP 5. Ants: One of Anton's Creatures from Renderosity. Background terrain by Karen Verba. Never did see it.. before my time, I'm afraid. Great black and white image. (Too bad the ants don't look more sinister, but that's what a low poly face gets you)

I remember that film too, something about radiation. Of course at the time, I didn't know that ants couldn't be scaled up like that and still move or breath.

Ack! Scary!! Love this one, Jeremy. The black and white really makes it look like something out of an old movie.

Ah Yes.. I remember that scary in the dark feeling well. Ran home from the movies as fast as my legs would carry me many a time.. The black & white movies are still the best for scary & your image is a wonderful example of them..

Great scene, Jeremy. I like the mono treatment. It also reminds me of an old episode of the original 'Outer Limits'.

Don't know about the movie but this is a pretty scary looking! This would freak me out if I were walking out there to suddenly see a line of big ants coming towards me. Yikes! However, I love the night. We live in deep country where there are no streetlights so it actually appears brighter outside because of it. My family and I wait for nightfall to look through our telescopes. I have an 8 inch reflector Dobsonian telescope. It's awesome. I can see into deep space with it. We also live close by an observatory that we can go to on the week-ends and just look into deep space. Totally awesome! Anyway back to your image- great stuff. Sci-fi and fantasy stuff is always more fun to do because you have no rules. :) Yeah, I'm still sick today; no school, lots of bed rest. I've got a major bug. The bright side is I get to watch movies, eat fun foods and have the house all to myself because everyone is either at school or work. Home alone! Can't beat that. giggle

Yeah, I remember that one too. There were quite a flock of "radition doomsday" films back then. This one creeped out my brother and I too! Thanks for the memory!

sir! - I remember it well, in part becase my heart throb Kim Novak was the primary blonde screamer. One of the many mid '50s atomic scare flicks, another one with giant rabbits, aliens that left a sparkling trail of glitter, preying mantis etc etc. not to forget "the thing" starring James Arness as a visitng carrot. LOL. Rocket ship XM, my first love affair with Mars. Anyways, ya done really good with this visit to 1950's memory lane
