Sincerely, Leo Long
With her
I missed my chance
or more accurately stated, never had one
but the lady opened my eyes
to whole new world
Who else would free you from a ‘present’ prison
then incarcerate your heart with a hug?
Who else would stop the car
to rescue a caterpillar?
Who else would risk life and limb
and dry clothes to photograph a leaf in the water?
Who else would listen to your walkman with one ear
and to your heartbeat with the other?
Who else would make a penis salad
for a gathering of nuts?
Who else would dance with you under the moonlight
then gleefully prance on your bloody corpse in a game of pool?
Who else would shed a tear
at the serenity of a sunrise?
Who else would cook you breakfast
and let you watch breathlessly?
Who else would kiss a deer?
Who else would a deer kiss?
Who else thinks badminton is
a bedroom sport?
Are you getting my drift?
Her enthusiasm for life is infectious
and she didn’t wear her heart on her sleeve.
It was her entire wardrobe.
With her I found myself thinking about the words to that
old country song…
“When we had nothing, nothing sure looked good on you”
That’s the way she looked,
that’s the way she dressed
and that’s the way she acted
Always the lady
My physical attraction to her
was and is the worst kept secret in at least five states
and a couple of third world countries
but that attraction only skimmed the surface
of the deep affection I held for her inside
I mean I’ve always tried to be a gentleman with the ladies
but she taught me that true respect
means more than politely going through the motions
Now I don’t care if the whole damn world knows
I love her and always will

This is so sweet and special, I can see you have a "touch" with animals, no doubt, which gave rise to the poem.

I've known Mr. Leo Long for almost five years. We are fellow poets on Allpoetry.com Two years ago a group of us poets got together for a week long vacation in the Pocanoes in what we affectionately called "A Gathering of Nuts". It also turned out to be a surprise birthday party for me and Leo was my surprise present. The man sat in a box for almost 20 min waiting for me to open my present. Leo is the one who introduced me to Renderosity and the beauty of the poetry that resides in his heart. I invite all of you to go to Allpoetry and read his work. I promise you, you will not be disappointed. Leo is my very best friend.I know what a very special man he is, I know what I have in him as such. I do hope that the woman of his dreams knows it too. I want to thank Piet for our conversation today. As this was a long overdue post. Amazing to be this close to a wild deer. She would let me scratch all the parts she couldn't reach. She would come up to me after this nudging my chin for food.

Hi Michelle. Awesome photo and clever title. You've mentioned Leo several times.. He sounds like a great guy. He also sounds like he knows you very well too. But does he have blisters on his feet? (lol) So I take it that Leo really likes you? (ok..just kiddin..) He wrote a great poem here but I'm not sure about the "Penis Salad" part... that sounds painful... at least for one gender..lol. Bravo, really neat pic of a trusting deer. Hugs from Dave :^)
