Description

Obviously, there was some wound on the oak, which attracted a huge crowd of insects. I am in trouble with the English names; the largest number is made by Cetonia aurata, there is one representative of Cerambycidae (the one with the long moustache), a hornet, some dwarf stag beetles (a species different from SB, showing hardly any sexual dimorphism) and, on the upper picture, a male stag beetle. He tried to throw down all the others (but avoided the hornet), yet could not get closer to the "well" (see lower pic). The green critters returned within a few seconds. Maybe the reason why he flew here was forgotten. Very human. I have made a movie of this scene with the same camera. It is a pity that I cannot share it with you. For names, I am going to find out more precise definitions. Kind greetings, Lorand
