Description

This is something I am doing as a request for someone... sort of a Warcraft elf thing, lol. I am not really happy with the way this is going and I have spent way too much time spinning my wheels on this so I am looking for direction on composition, costume, things to add, things to take away, general critique, anything little thing would help and I would so appreciate it. skin: Blood and Gold By ilona, Bez backdrop: Sparrow 2.0 By JenniSjoberg, Andi3d ~ Thanks for viewing

Well, as you asked, I spent quite some time looking at this yet super achievement trying to spot areas for improvements, if any. Here are my remarks but you might not agree witht them, if only with any single one! - tilting: I believe you tilted wall+columns to give some sight-plunging effect. The girl however doesn't seem to "align" with that tilting: she looks a bit less tilted, to my eye at least - scene lighting: I found it disturbing that given the fuzzy/unprecise light source that the farther column looked more in the light than the front column - body lighting: the lighting on her body is really perfect but I'd say too vivid compared to the scene: if her skin is extremely white, it should be more gray here to accustom to the darker place/cell - perspective: the round foundation of the right pillar is drawn as a full volume but the perspective would suggest part of it should be inside the wall (but this might be a side effect of the "tilting" point mentioned earlier) - attitude: the girl's whole expression seems to reflect some relaxation. However her right arm's position/angle seems in contradiction with a relaxed pose - shoulder outfit: looking especially at the extreme edge of both shoulder outfits, they seem not aligned with the direction of the shoulders. More specifically, only the front low edge of her right shoulder outfit's should be visible from that angle. As far as the girlis concerned, I have no remark nor suggestion so far !

This is stunning. From a man's point of view there is nothing you should take away except maybe what she's wearing. Ha Ha

No time to read all the postings so don't know if anyone else has suggested this but I think that the columns should be grander, fatter, whatever way to make her background seem majestic.

What a beautiful image you have created. Since you asked for suggestions here is an idea or two. She looks like she has a petite figure even though she is well developed. Depending upon the type of Elf she is would determine the type of accessories she would require. IMHO she looks to be a bit of a warrioress but a large weapon would seem out of place for her, so, maybe a fancy dagger to go with her outstanding outfit would be appropriate. If she is supposed to be a magical Elf maybe a well defined staff would be more to her liking and since she looks a little sad it could be damaged in some way. In any event, your imagination has made a unique image that anyone would be pleased to receive. Congratulations!

OMG! That outfit is amazing, your character is beautiful & so is the overall artwork. I can't think at the moment what to add to it because it's just so good!

Very beautiful character, perfect lighting and tones. W/ 5 pages of comments it's probably been said, but I think the intricacy of the columns on each side of her detracts. It competes with the beautiful scrollwork of her outfit for the eye's attention. So beautiful, I wouldn't mention it unless asked.

As someone who plays a Blood Elf I can add a few thoughts that might be helpful. As has been previously mentioned the background is off a bit but I don't think you really need to change the wall itself but perhaps you can add some colorful drapes around the edges, reds, yellows and purples are the primary colors in Silvermoon City. The boots are off but that is just ticky-tacky. One of the cool things I associate with Blood Elves are the mana worms, might look interesting in this scene. I thought your attitude was a refreshing change. Your work looks great and as long as you keep finding ways to improve, your artwork will only get better!

Hi. Love your work...listing you as a fav artist. A crit on thid piece...keeping in mind it's just my opinion. First I like the view not being straight on, but the colums not beig completely vertical is distracting...throws it all off balance. The composition requires more space between the woman and the pillar on the right...this will lead the eye from the girl, up or down her body, along the top or bottom of the frame, up or down the colum, back to the character and around it goes again. It's too cramped to do that now, the colum acts as a stop to the eye. If you spread the colums out, keeping the one on the left in place and moving the one on the right almost or all the way to the edge of the screen would help lead the eye around the frame. Other than that perhaps a bit more space above her head to introduce a little bit more asymmetry. And IF you don't want it to look like the roof is right on top of her head, you need to raise the top/hight of the colums...seeing the top support ring indicates the roof hieght. The rest is all icing. Perhaps a torch on the wall...this would allow you to define at least one light source and allow or explain some heavy to light shadows on one side of the woman...very dramatic. I don't think you need too much more than that, but more chains or a weapon leaning against the wall would add to it, depending on the mood you're looking for. Hope you don't take offense at my opinions. I've asked for some before and never got any...disapointing. Take care, happy rendering, John

OK, first... stinkin' wonderful image... love that red against the fair skin. the thing that bothers me about the image is stiffness. if that makes sense. maybe a little too posed. i assumed the pose a minute ago to see how it felt, it's something i've always done, regardless of what medium i've been working in... it didn't feel natural. if a pose feels natural, or unnatural (depending), i run with it, dependent on what outcome i want. i agree with what Dragonmuse said, too. the background in a rich material, versus the drab background would be killer. Aka-paah mentioned the pose too... i think hit a descriptive better than me.
