Description

Days passed. Ishar's Keep stood empty. The guards who served her more out of greed and fear than any sense of true loyalty had long since fled. And thanks to a grateful Council of Lords, the keep as well as all of Ishar's lands were now Rinn's to do with as he pleased. Part of him wanted to raze the building to the ground, tear it to its very foundations after all that Ishar had done, but he resisted until he had had more time to think things through. He knew he could never bring himself to live there though. Since her release, Jessa had grown stronger, her eyes brighter with each passing day. Word of events was already spreading like wildfire and Rinn found himself treated as a hero by the local people and somehow it felt awkward - he'd only done what he had to. His own bruises were starting to fade and his cuts beginning to heal. And today, his family was laid to rest. He had them buried beneath a tree on their lands, one he remembered climbing as his father watched over him from below, his mother scolding both of them because it was too dangerous... He knelt by the stone memorial, finishing the last of his silent prayers with Jessa by his side. He thought it would make him feel better, but it didn't very much. Only the comfort in knowing that they would rest in peace served to soften his saddened heart. What now? he thought to himself. No home, no family. There was nothing to keep me here anymore, except... "Jessa," he asked, looking up at her. "What will you do now?" The young seer pondered this question a moment. "There is another Temple of Oracles in Tarise," she said. "I could go there to continue my training." "..Oh." "But," she continued after a moment, "That can wait. I don't think I'm ready to go back to study. I think... I want to stay in the sun a little while longer. It's nice here... What about you? What will you do now?" "I... don't know. You probably know better than me." She smiled in spite of herself. "What is it?" he asked. "I can't see anything for you." "You can't?" "A seer can never see her own fate, remember?" Rinn thought about this a moment, and found himself smiling as well. Perhaps he would rebuild the family home. There were plenty of lands to watch over and take care of now, he couldn't just trust that to anyone. In fact, there were a million reasons he could think of to stay now... He almost laughed at himself. Jessa was right: good or bad, sometimes fate needs a little nudge. END First Page Previous »

Holy crud, I did it. 22 images, a little over three months, and hours of lost sleep, and it's finished! I probably should have left it at pic 20, but I'd already started the epilogue by the time I finished 20, so I needed closure, darnit! :D I do wish I could have spent more time on it though, but over the past three months, lotsa things have gotten backed up and honestly I've devoted all the time to it I can. :( I've learned a lot on this project both technical and visual. I know it helped me as an illustrator, and I recommend trying a narrative project like this to others, maybe not on this scale, but sometime, try to tell a little story instead of sticking with the same old same old. I want to thank everyone who toughed it out through the entire run or just came in late and stayed. You guys are the best. You're why this got finished. Otherwise, I might have given up long ago. Speaking of which, I may not do another story for a while, but I'm not giving up the genre either. :) If you're just tuning in, I suggest you use the navigation links above to read the story from the beginning as it was intended, not waiting for a new part every few days. :) Thanks again everyone.

claps her hands Wonderful end to your story! I am sad to see it is finished, but I am glad it is a happy ending for Rinn and Jessa. I do hope you will be doing another story sometime. I really enjoyed this one. But I also know how much time gets into the creation of such a story with illustrations. So congratulations on sticking with it till the end! :)

Exquisite! An awesome, thrilling and rounded off story with a happy ending - this is a rarity in Rendoland. Usually a series goes on and on (I know of what I'm speaking) or it ends abrupt (and mostly bad), or it breaks off (bad as well). - But don't think that this round story sated our appetite - au contraire. We want more! When shall you bewitch us with your next tale? How about yesterday?
