Subject: Manual Entry of Code to keep Poser Running on Standalone

consumer573 ( ) posted Sat, 29 June 2019 at 4:44 PM · edited Thu, 23 April 2026 at 7:24 AM

Congratualations on acquiring Poser Software! I hope Renderosity has the interest and creativity to make it thrive and the community grow!

I am running Poser pro 10 + gaming and although I do own Poser 11 it is not loaded. My Powerful graphics machine is not allowed to go out to the web. It asks for a Poser code about every six months (coming up soon) or it will die.

Where is the link will I be going to keep my poser program running?.

I would prefer if you disabled the check-in feature as it seems really stupid and didn't exist in Poser 7 and earlier copies. Poser is unique enough and inexpensive enough that I can't see people really going around it (easier just to go Daz instead if you want free). The kill switch was one of Smith Micros gaffs, especially when you had free software in DAZ.

Go here, sign in and you have to option to make your license permanent, which means you won't have to connect to the internet to activate it again.

Will that still work Rokket, now that SM no longer owns Poser?

I just went to the site to verify if before I posted. It still works.

Good to know. Now to keep an eye out, as it might have to be picked up by Renderosity at a later date.

Super rokket! You're a blast!

I mean, really good feedback, thank you. I did not know about the making it permanent thing. Glad that they finally did that! I'll go to the site after the Thunderstorms pass.

I read this right away but didn't have time to respond. Doing so now. Really, Really appreciate the information. Thank you!

unrealblue ( ) posted Thu, 04 July 2019 at 11:01 PM

Doesn't it also lock it to a single computer?? I switch back and forth between my macbook pro and imac pro. Most of the time, my laptop is sufficient, but sometimes I need the imac's 36 cores (I'm looking at you, SuperFly).

rokket ( ) posted Thu, 04 July 2019 at 11:05 PM

Unfortunately, yes, it does lock it to a single computer. Since I only have the one, and could literally spend weeks with no internet, I changed it to the permanent license. You have to make up your own mind as to what you want...

@thoennes - the offline license is only available for one computer, however I believe you are allowed to install on up to 3, hence the 3 activations and the need to deactivate if you move Poser to another computer. So you are able to flit back and forth between the 2 computers you use, but only 1 will be able to be licensed as a non-phone home one, but the other will still need internet access to self validate periodically.

quietrob ( ) posted Sun, 07 July 2019 at 10:26 AM

I hope Poser Pro (PP11) removed this restriction all together.

So I can, for instance, load PP on my home computer AND my laptop and I'll still have an install left?

consumer573 ( ) posted Sat, 03 August 2019 at 6:45 AM

For what it is worth I found I'm actually operating Poser 2014 pro - the one just under Poser 11 Pro. I bought Poser 111 Pro as an early adopter but did not install it when I heard that there were some bugs and that in particular they had changed the Version 10-2014 Pro Library Search function that was working super well to something more complicated and less efficient.

I do not know what the current state of the LIbrary search is, but I've talked to several artists and a number of them feel the same way that I do, that poser 2014 with the gaming and poly reduction functions is a better value than Poser 11. I'm sorry about that because it apparently precludes the new La Femme Character which I would very much like to use and support.

consumer573 ( ) posted Sat, 03 August 2019 at 6:46 AM

I'm going to copy the above to a new thread. Maybe there will be some comments on "Poser 11 Library function."

Help!

I want to make my Poser 2014 license permanent on my graphics machine.

My Poser finally came up and I now have 4 days to (re) activate the license before it is kaput on my machine. I want to make it permanent so I went to the site for the pg portal. PG portal says to sign in with either my content paradise account or my renderosity account. I tried both and it doesn't work. It doesn't even recognize my email address when I go to send for password. I have that email address tied to the smith micro activation. I am puzzled. Smith Micro should have my email on file even in their support area where I have corresponded with them freely.

Anybody know who or what PG portal is?

Am I supposed to sign up on this pg portal thing as if I am totally new?

I don't want to confuse things or mess up my existing accounts.

In the past I have gone to the offline activation site: http://producturlsupport.com/activation

Contact JennBlake at store@renderosity.com and tell her your woes. She may be able to help.

consumer573 ( ) posted Sun, 18 August 2019 at 11:28 AM

I was able to get in to the portal from my old content paradise account. Doesn't show my licenses, though, even though I know Smith Micro has them. Also is not connected to my Renderosity account.

So, bend JennBlake's ear to step me through this?

No response from store via email or here.

Grace Period ended.

Poser Died.

Reverted to unregistered status.

This is why I hate kill switches with a passion.

https://my.smithmicro.com/

Go to the above address. Under the Support tab far right click on License Manager last entry. This should take to the place to register your Poser. I just reactivated my Poser Pro 2014GD version and had no problems on the internet. After you log in you should be able to do the manual activation for at least 6 months to get you back and running. I also don't see why you shouldn't be able to do a permanent license here also. Smith Micro will be keeping this portal open for awhile as MOHO uses the same activation process as 2014GD and Poser 11 use.

This advice appears to be helpful. I've made progress. I went and was able to gain entry with my CP login and password. When there it did not show any serial numbers for me but gave me the option of entering one. I entered the latest, my PoserPro2014 Game developer (I own Poser 11 physical but have never loaded it anywhere). It now comes up with several activations and the activation code for the machine that activated it. The problem is there is no date for these activations nor is there a way that ZI can see to identify the machine it is supposed to be on. It does, however, now say that the license is permanent, which I take to be a good thing. It lists a way for me to remove the activations, but I have no idea what to remove and what will happen if I do so. Getting closer, however, and your suggestion appears to be a very good one. I do not yet know how to connect this information to actually getting my poser running again as the license on my machine says it has reverted to being unregistered.

This might be helpful to others reading this thread and for those who may have to go through what I am going through. Once in, there is a Smith Micro 'disclaimer' that you have to check, but that is really a poor term in that it is actually a helpful informational document on how to use your poser serial numbers. I believe it's worth copy/pasting here:

FROM SMITH MICRO SITE

  • You have a choice between online and offline activation.
  • You will have a 7 day grace period before both initial and activation refresh become mandatory.
  • Feature set is limited to standard version during the initial (first) grace period if activation has not occurred (Poser 11 and Moho 12 only).
  • We offer activation on 3 machines/OS installations concurrently.
  • We still have our 'like a book' policy. If you purchase one seat, one person can use the software at one time. What is different now is that you can install and activate on up to three machines or OS installations.
  • Need a fourth activation? Deactivate one of the first three active clients through the Smith Micro Graphics License Manager at https://pgportal.smithmicro.com/#!/product-licenses.
  • You can deactivate additional clients after a three month waiting period.
  • You may request permanent activation capability for your license through the Smith Micro Graphics License Manager at https://pgportal.smithmicro.com/#!/product-licenses.
  • Requesting permanent activation capability will turn your license key read-only. Future adjustments, such as resetting your permanent activation, will require Tech Support assistance at https://support.smithmicro.com.
  • Please make sure to deactivate from within your Smith Micro Graphics product (Poser 11, Anime Studio 11, Moho 12, MotionArtist) via Help > Deactivate License... before swapping hardware or performing an OS re-installation.
  • We have a contingency plan to allow you to continue using your copy of the Smith Micro product, regardless of Smith Micro management, employee or ownership changes.

Also from the Smith Micro site. One of the things I want to keep is my Poser Libarary info with all its multiple pointers to external file links. The key file appears to be "Libraryprefs.xml" which can be edited as text if you change the extension. Before I reactivate Poser I'm going to find this file and make a backup. Here's what the Smih Micro Site says;

FROM SMITH MICRO: LIBRARY PREFS INFO

Solving weird issues by removing your Poser Preferences Poser 10, Poser Pro 2014/2014 Game Dev, and Poser 11/Poser Pro 11 If Poser crashes or starts behaving oddly for no apparent reason, it may be that its preference files have been damaged or corrupted.

Removing the damaged files will restore Poser to its factory default settings and may fix problems that won't go away otherwise. This won't remove any additional figures, props or poses that you might have installed.

To remove preferences you must shut down Poser first. You then can Move (Cut and Paste) the prefs files from their location in the folders (as described below) to a New Folder on your Desktop if you wish to back up these file, or you can delete the entire Poser preference folder altogether. If you wish to back up the specific files, then the specific files to back up are:

=> Poser Prefs(MAC)/Poser.ini(WIN)

=> LibraryPrefs.xml,

=> Poser UI Prefsxxxxx.xml

Poser will rebuild these files the next time you start the program (SO BACK THEM UP IF YOU WANT TO SAVE THEM; MAYBE MAKE PERIODIC BACK-UPS B4 A PROBLEM).

NOTE: If you use Multiple Runtimes, the **LibraryPref.xml **contains your External Runtime Links for your Libraries. You can Copy it back after testing to see if the issue is resolved. If the figure required to check is in an External Runtime, you will need to add that one Runtime back within the Poser application to see if the problem is resolved this way.

Poser 10 and Poser Pro 2014/2014 Game Dev as well as Poser 11/Poser Pro 11 place the Preference Files in the: following locations depending on Operating System

Mac OS

HD > Users > (username) > Library > Application Support > Poser (or Poser Pro) > 10 folder.

WINDOWS 7/8/10

ComputerLocal Disk >C:AppData>Roaming>Poser (or Poser Pro) The UI Preference will be in the English SubFolder.

For Windows if you do not see these folders....

By default, some of these folders are Hidden. To view these Folders, launch Control Panel and select Folder Options. Select the "View" Tab at the top and place the dot in the "Show hidden files and folders" option and click OK.

Is there going to be an update to PP Game Dev to accommodate the licensing server change?

I don't know. That is one reason I've taken trouble to attempt to make that license "permanent" on my machine. There's another thread where I detail my woes. It was finally solved and I think the software may now be permanent on that machine.

consumer573 ( ) posted Sun, 06 September 2020 at 12:14 PM · edited Sun, 06 September 2020 at 12:18 PM

UPDATE September 2020

Smith Micro either did not tell the truth or they made a mistake. Apparently my Poser Game Developer version was not made permanent on my machine as they said they would do. Instead they gave it a one year activation and now that no-one claims ownership of Game Developer it died on September 4, 2020 and cannot be resurrected.

Maybe someone will find me a Poser Easter Sunday someday.

But for now, I have groused in detail elsewhere, so this is not the place and I don't want to extend that discussion here. I just want to update the status of my software.

In another more up to date thread I was given alternatives, namely upgrade to Poser 11.3, which currently the serial number will allow, and also enter my PoserPro2014 serial number which is pre-kill switch.

I have entered my PoserPro2014 serial number and the software is currently happily running at that level.

I'm in the process of loading 11.3, with the grateful help of Rendo folks, which hopefully will run along side and not interfere with PoserPro2014 for more than the 90 days usually allotted. For those of you accessing the web with your poser machines it won't make a difference, but mine is offline permanently for security reasons (no worry from viruses and no overhead from so-called virus protection software).
