Subject: Probably a dumb question, but.....

arrowhead42 ( ) posted Mon, 04 April 2016 at 3:48 PM · edited Sun, 28 April 2024 at 1:10 AM

I'm relatively experienced at a lot of things in Poser, having worked with variations of the program for 8 years now, but I have a question more likely to come from a newbie. At the risk of embarrassment, here it goes.... If I've found some old clothes and such, in the freebies section that are made for G2 figures, what does that mean? One is for the "G2 male", band I have no idea what that refers to. Um... help?

Here's the link to my freebies:   https://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/?uid=493127

G2Female and G2Male refer to Genesis 2 figures. They are newer male and female figures available at Daz3D

To use them in Poser you need at last Poser 9/2010 Pro and the DSON Importer, if the files don't have poser compagnion fies you have to use DAZ Studio or other tools to create them.

Are you sure? Because the specific thing I came across was made or posted in 2007, and I didn't think Genesis figures had been out that long. But wait.... what I'm looking at is at https://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/g2-personal-armor-g2pa-/38330

And it says it's made for " G2 James, Kelvin, Koji and Simon". Okay, I have the James character from an older version of Poser, but what is G2 James?

Hmmm, in this instance it looks like it might be actually for figures that come with Poser? But normally G2 refers to Genesis 2

Thats the problem with the naming of figures. As G2 meant Poser figures and Genesis 2 should be Studio figures, nevertheless it's common to name Genesis 2 figures G2 and that causes the probems.

The term "G2" was used for second generation Poser dolls before the DAZ Genesis series started. G2 James, Kelvin, Koji and Simon are "MkII", so to speak, versions of Poser dolls.

It appears that you found stuff for some of the modified Poser dolls. Look in the runtime which came with Poser to see if you have those dolls (SydneyG2, etc). What version of Poser do you have?

Poser G2 figures: G2 James, G2 Jessi, G2 koji, G2 Olivia, G2 Kelvin and the figures Sydney and Simon are considered G2 figures as well. They all accept the same clothing and morphs as the bodies share a shape and morphs according to gender. The faces on the other hand do not. I hope that clears things up a bit.

That's the reason when someone posts G2, I ask original generation 2 or Genesis 2 Female/Male.

In the case of the older G2 figures that Boni mentioned, the "G2" stands for "Generation 2". They were "improved" versions of the original Poser 7 figures. They are included with all later versions of Poser.

Okay, well I'm currently using Poser Pro 10, but I have some legacy content from the original Poser version I started with (Poser 5) and also from Poser 7. So, the James character that came with Poser 7 is suitable for use with the above mentioned content?

Heh heh... yeah, the Pro version of P10 is Poser Pro 2014. As of P11, they now use a coordinated pro name, P11Pro. Better nomenclature, I think. When the original Poser Pro was released, I suggested that it should be named P7Pro.

Anyway, if you have P10/Pro2014, then you have the G2 dolls; look in the runtime which SmithMicro installs, at C:UsersPublicDocumentsPoser Pro 2014 ContentRuntimeLibrariesCharacterPeople

In there, you'll see SimonG2, SydneyG2, etc. They'll be in the Poser Pro 2014 content library.

The James included in Poser 7 is the Poser 6 James, not the G2 James. But, back in Poser 7 days, in the box e-Frontier gave a coupon for a free 6-month membership to the Content Paradise Passport Club (like Prime here) and one of the perks was that the other G2 figures (except Miki2) were free.

However, one can apparently still get G2 James and G2 Jessi free with your Poser serial number; click on the version dropdown here...

I don't think freebies are available any longer. I see no evidence of such instances mentioned and the PDF links return an error 404.

WandW ( ) posted Tue, 05 April 2016 at 4:32 PM · edited Tue, 05 April 2016 at 4:33 PM

The Documentation PDF link works for me, and I just had checked the free James and Jessi today at CP today for my post above. Go to the above link, Click on the "Select a Version/Price:" dropdown and it's the bottom option, "G2 James & G2 Jessi for Poser Owners (Digital) - $0.00"...

The free figures are still available. (I'm downloading them now), but it wouldn't take my P11 serial, I had to use my Pro-2014 serial.

I tried it, but no luck. It wouldn't accept any of my serial numbers from Poser 5, Poser 7 or Poser Pro 2010. And $29.99 for G2 James is not in my budget anytime in the forseeable future

Poser 5's number probably shouldn't work, but I'd expect the other versions to. I'd file a support ticket...

https://support.smithmicro.com/customer/portal/emails/new

If you don't have a support account you'll need to create one...

EDIT; before you do that, try this link: http://www.contentparadise.com/ProductDetails.aspx?id=792

The Poser G2 figures all share the same body. So even if the James included in Poser is a P6 model, the Simon and Sydney figures included with the P7 figures are both G2 figures as well and should be able to wear those clothes.
