Let's see if I can get an image to post here.

EDIT: the answers appears to be no, I can't, so click the link above.

Took a short break from playing Diablo 3...to make an image inspired by Diablo 3. I didn't have any armour in my content library that really matched my favorite demon Hunter image from the game manual so this is as close as I can get for now.

Now back to the game.

Cool Rob

Off topic what were they thinking over at DAZ?  Put out a new beta version of studio the shut the site for any forum or technical support?? I am glad I am a Reality use and need to wait a bit....

argel1200 ( ) posted Thu, 17 May 2012 at 7:02 PM

Jogging down the jungle path, you come to a halt as you watch cannibals build a pit trap right in front of you. You continue to watch as they conceal it, and eventually, as your impatience is about to boil over, post two "Pit Trap Ahead" signs, one for each direction of the path. "Finally, the path is clear again" you think, as you leave your hiding place and start jogging down the path again, immediately falling into the pit trap. Later that day, as you are being spit roasted alive, you wonder why the cannibals installed a new pit trip on the jogging path....

More poignant questions like "why couldn't it have been a deadly pit trap" and "WTF was I thinking?!?" elude you...

Much later that evening, the cannibals decide that the new regulations from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Food requiring warning signs for said food are not so bad after all.

Anyway, that’s a long and hopefully humorous way of saying you only have yourself to blame if you install release candidate software just before a big website and forum cutover occurs. That and you should know how much sympathy  to expect from me! ;)

bobvan ( ) posted Thu, 17 May 2012 at 7:06 PM · edited Thu, 17 May 2012 at 7:06 PM

Whooaaa dude LOL the new site is up but yeah I choose to wait for the official release.. Not all candidate software are bad we are using a candidate 1.0 of Lux are we not?

argel1200 ( ) posted Thu, 17 May 2012 at 7:11 PM · edited Thu, 17 May 2012 at 7:23 PM

Yeah, but I'm not asking the guys at Lux what the heck were they were thinking, knowing Reality users would be jumping all over it! Edit2: And there was no Lux website + forum cutover. And we can still use 0.9 if we have problems with 1.0RC1, right?

Edit1: Can you tell I'm bored that the new forums are not up yet? ;)

Edit3: And hey, I did imply it was an obvious trap, right? ;)

bobvan ( ) posted Thu, 17 May 2012 at 7:36 PM

LOL actually if one saved their studio 4 version 37 thay can go back to that as well but yeah the cutover thing really baffles me!!

argel1200 ( ) posted Thu, 17 May 2012 at 7:58 PM · edited Thu, 17 May 2012 at 7:58 PM

It could be that they have not worked all of the kinks out of adding a beta release to everyone's downloads in the new store yet so had to do under the old store.

Also, from what I read, you can only have DS4 or 4.5 on your system, but not both. And trying to go back from 4.5 to 4 sounds like somethign out of the Cthluhu Mythos... ;)

It does make you ask who is responsible for coordination ar DAZ. The timing could not have been any worse. First of all, I am completely against public betas, second, who decided that it was the right time to do it just the day before the new site went live?

There are things that happen at DAZ that baffle me.

Anyway, I am glad that we have this thread as the DAZ forum, as anticipated, is completely inaccessible.

Btw, it's 3:52am in Italy, I am unable to sleep suffering from a 9 hour time difference and quite a long trip :)

Cheers.

Hello.

Here is a quick tutorial on how to post images to this thread.

  • Add your image to the Renderosity gallery, it gives you good artistic karma. Don't forget to credit Reality in the notes, there is a field for it. You first add the vendor name, Pret-a-3d, and then the gallery will show you the name of the product.
  • Once the image is online click on the page that shows the full version.
  • Find the link to the image file embedded in the page and copy the link (aka URL) to the clipboard. See below for how to find the URL.
  • Create a new message in this thread.
  • Click on th second-to-last icon in the toolbar, the one with the little tree.
  • In the dialog box that shows paste the URL in the first field.
  • Click on the Adavanced tab and set the width to 600. The height will be adjusted automatically.
  • Press Insert and your image will be added inline to your message.
  • If your image is already on another site, use the URL for that site instead, there is no rule that the image must reside in the Renderosity galleries.

How to find the URL of the image:

  • If you are on a desktop system (Mac or Windows) right click on the image and select  something like "Copy image link". The actual wording changes from browser to browser but you get the gist.
  • If tiu are on iOS yiu should use a browser different from Safari, because Safari doesn't provide this feature. Atomic browser works well but other might be as good.

Hope this helps.

Attached Link: FAQ for the new DAZ 3D Forums

Quick heads-up on the new forums at Daz. Did anyone else notice this in the "FAQ for the new DAZ 3D Forums":

The notification link of a post I’m following doesn’t go directly to the new post.

  • The notification of a new post to a topic you are following will link you to the first post. This is a limitation of the forum software. You will need to navigate to the last post of the topic to see the new comment.

You'll notice that this doesn't say "at this time" or "currently" as some other parts of the FAQ do. Looks like this is a permanent thing.

With a thread that moves as fast as the Reality one always has, this is going to be ridiculous. Whenever I get see an email that there's a new comment, it's an hour or two later and more comments have been added. This is going to mean scrolling around just to find where I got up to for every single thread. Welcome back, 1998!

I see there are already several BEAUTIFUL images posted in this thread! wOw!

Aww Paolo.. I hope they find your things soon at the airport! (not 'Daz' soon I hope..)

'A Lonely Street'

Only used 'Sun' (and sky) lights here. The angle of the sun is not the easiest angle to get the lighting right, I can tell you that! :)

The image as you see it now was not the way I envisioned it. Originally I wanted to show the girl in a dress..
Every time I tried to 'drape' the dress Daz crashed instantly to desktop.. :( So in the end I gave her a pair of pants and a bikini top.
Now I ask for help..
My version of DazStudio is 4.0.3.36 Pro (64bit) and I read somewhere that several problems with the Dynamic Clothing Plugin were solved in version 4.0.3.9 (so maybe also the crashing to desktop while draping)
I cannot find that version anywhere, so HELP! Does anyone know where I can find that version?
Thanks in advance for any tips! :)

 Uhm.. that image-insert-thinghy isn't 'blond-proof'...

Lovely render Callad, the light is beautiful in this one.

I'm using version 4.0.3.47 Pro 64-bit here and I can drape without crashing so far.

You should be able to get the latest version by resetting the download in your Daz account, in Itemized Order History.

Well, just make sure you have the 'node selection tool' activated, then select an eye, then call Reality, then set focus.

When you select a -surface- with the 'surface selection tool' it won't work cuz some other 'node' might be still selected. As far as I know Reality looks at the node selected.

Could this have been your problem?

So when you say "node" do you me the actual eye for example?  Or creating a null and positioning it front of the eye and selecting that?

Hmmm. The DOF fix Paolo implemented a while back causes a much more pronounced effect, so selecting the eye might be too far back now. Paolo used to suggest creating a null and placing it on the eye surface and focusing on that because selecting the eye caused Lux to focus inside it instead of on the surface.

A node is a stopping point along a series of branches. A figure such as a humanoid would have each body part as a node for example. These are what you select and move around. Filter Forge uses a node-based editor and each "thing" you add and link together and drag around would be a node.

That's what I had been doing, meaning creating a null and positioning it at the eye, and after the release when I tried it the focuing was WAY off.  Scary off.. So I must be doing something wrong.

Creating a null and place it precisely works the best, for far-away-shots (like my lonely street image) the eye will do nicely. :)

To play it safe: always use a null!
