Subject: Joint Parameters Question

Sometimes when working on various joint parameters, I come across the letter "e" within the set of numbers.  Does anyone know what the "e" stands for?

 I've always assumed it was a sort of Error - like "out of bounds" thing. As far as I can tell it doesn't REALLY matter. At least i've had it quite a few, otherwise working, rigs :)

Numbers can be written in exponential notation. In this notation, there is a number before and after the e. The number after the e is a power of 10. That power of 10 is multiplied with the digits before the e.

For example, 1.5e6 is 1.5 times 10 ^ 6. 10^6 is 1 million, or 1000000. So that means 1.5 million. Written out normally it would be 1500000.

The number 3.4e9 means 3.4 billion, or 3400000000. Exponential notaion sometimes takes less space, sometimes more.

Tiny numbers use negative exponents. A negative exponent means divide, not multiply.

So, 1e-9 is .000000001. 1.53e-9 is .00000000153.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
