Wow, this is major detailing!! Keep up the excellent work. PLEASE POST YOUR UPDATES HERE, THEY ARE NOT TO BIG. Turner has to upgrade his screen if he is working in 3D. ;)) Strata

Is everything here modelled, or do you use bump/displacement maps for any of the detail?

The model looks great! Do you have an particular technique for doing the raised panels?

Chris ( ) posted Tue, 14 December 2010 at 3:44 AM

Hi all,

for some reason I don't get notifications anymore when someone posted in this thread. So I'm sorry when I answer to late.

Thanks again for your comments. :)

@Richy-Rich
I think its how to see it growing ... started from primitives and now it gets in shape and you can see the deadline now :)

**@contrafibbularities
**thanks :)

**@devin1
**there is no special technique, just cut and extrude ... thats all :) I have promised to make a little tutorial for it. Its about half done ... :)

here is a bit more progress. Some more details added.

Hi Chris, I look at these all the time and I was just wondering where those ball turrets are that they shot from in the movie?

Chris ( ) posted Thu, 07 April 2011 at 12:34 PM

there were no "ball" turrets there :)

That strange, is there one on the bottom then? Because in the movie they both went in different direction to get into the chair that controlled the gun.

Rich, the Y-Wing I've been working on is up to 30 or so sub-assemblies. ;) The last export I did was 12 models.

You know it's bad when you have to turn off the the view obj., just to get a render out..

Right Wolfgang? Opps, did I say that ;)

I would love to throw that Falcon into an outside landscape, for some renders, it's a beauty..

Thanks for the kind words :)

to keep the object manager clean I always group parts together like bottom Armour or left Tunnel, right tunnel. Some objects are merged together and I give funny names to them so I find them when I need them :)

My PC is a Workstation with 2x XEON 3.6 GHz and I have 4 Gig RAM and a videocard with 512MB RAM. It can handle the Full Model good but it gets harder with every new parts added. When I'm working on the model I hide the parts I'm not working on so its easy to handle it.

The Falcon has now about 3.2 Mio polys but its still a "dirty" model. There are alot of parts that can be modified and cleaned. I will do that when I prepare it for mapping.

Chris, this beauty becomes more awesome with every posting, the detail is stunning and your ability to stick with it is inspiring.

you'll have to do a video of you doing the mapping. I want to see you foam at the mouth . . 3.2 m polys and do the mapping?  That alone would send me screaming for the exits.  my hat is off to you sir.

Awesome job. Are you gonna animate the done Model or is it just gonna be a Still-Image?

How did you make the doorlock or do you have some blueprints?
