A child bone may only have one parent. In a biped, each leg connects to, and is a child of, the hip. The two legs do not connect, they do not share a common seam. If they do, then you will see splits in the mesh when you pose the figure.

I have now given it a stern talking to so it should behave, for the next few hours at least.
Well at least you don't have storm troopers using it as a jungle gym and match box cars as a garage as my 2 year tries to with my old system.
