Subject: Withdrawal symptoms...

XENOPHONZ ( ) posted Sun, 09 November 2003 at 7:51 AM · edited Tue, 15 April 2025 at 7:39 AM

Lately, when I attempt to "tune in" to RR, I often receive the following messages:

SessSQL: Too many connections

or:

SessSQL: Can't connect to MySQL server on '208.138.126.11' (113)

Please note that this has been happening on and off for 2-3 weeks now.

This morning, hurray!!! Back up!!!!

Obviously, I'm WAY too addicted.....

...after all the 'fixing' going on around here, this morning it took me 'hours' to get into this site.. :(

It has been almost impossible for me to get on all day and when I do It runs painfully slow, I get all kinds of messages and also corrupt pages and 'page not found'. I feel sorry for the merchants - their sales must be suffering and it wouldn't supprise me if some of them switched to another site. What's this all about ? - This has been going on for weeks! How difficult can it be to get a commercial site to run at a reasonable and reliable speed? Others manage it ok. I've seen hobbyist sites with thousands of hits per day run ten times faster! Enough is enough! The anoying part is that you seem so layed-back about it and your communication skills are in desperate need of an overhaul!

It's those merchants who have provided items that are exclusive to Renderosity who are truly suffering. Management, design, and programming. All three seem to have left this web site. I still say cash flow is an issue here, hence the attempt at raising 5 bucks each month from users who have some need to post 21 images a week or 84+ each month. It hasn't made any difference; postings are down and the site is slower than ever. Size does matter, and I think Renderosity has simply become too big for its britches. It simply cannot handle the load with as many users that have signed up and manage all their data. It's a matter of poor design and a severe lack of bandwidth. Try pinging this site and follow the trail to the bottleneck; it's the same every time. Bandwidth is quite expensive which would explain the need to hopefully milk five bucks from an unsuspecting user. It would appear that sales aren't too great in the store. And cash matters too. If there were sufficient cash resources, this wouldn't be happening. I'm not bashing the geeks behind the scene, but if they don't have the hardware and software resources needed to make this enterprise work, then their hands are tied as much as are the hands of those trying to actually visit this site. How many members are there? 153,000+? And how many of them are actually buying goods from the store? Probably very few, and if the site relies on sales for its survivability then therein lies the problem. Bandwidth Requirements: 2,000 people at any given time attempting to upload or download 200k all at once. No cash sales from the store for bandwidth upgrades, hardware upgrades or decent programming: 2,000 people meeting with failure all at once. To the owner Renderosity: GROW with the flow, as in providing needed capital, or make some tough business decisions... as in find a buyer? Your Band-Aid approach isnt working.

withdrawl symptoms: looking at people around you and wonder what they would look like in a thumbnail. trying to judge how much post work someone/scene from your window needs. wondering how many "hits" a person/scene would get then realizing you are looking at the TV or out your window. when you write a letter you are puting either interesting titles or tildes on your word as well as giving credits at the end of your letters to the paper maker, pen company etc. You start thinking that the woman next to you needs better lighting..her breast need tweeking, her hair could of been painted better and wondering what morphs where used to get her unique nose shape. when you start thinking of how to position a person or window view to best fit in a 200x200 thumbnail frame... ~giggles~

Yes. Or else, during an especially fine dinner or while at a party, you are discussing the weather with someone -- BUT -- all the while, you are thinking: "I wonder when this will be over, so that I can check back at RR? Or so that I can RENDER something.". Sounds a lot like addiction.

Yes to that, too. And I hate traveling on vacation. Vacation time takes me away from my PC for a week or two. Horrible. Absolutely horrible.

Xenophonz...I bring my laptop with me on CAMPING. But even if I can play with my Poser there, it's just NOT the same without internet access. And I can't afford a mobile modem :o(

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.

ernyoka1 - my laptop died a couple of months ago. I haven't replaced it yet. And, yes, a laptop, at least, makes a good "life-boat", until you can get back to your powerful PC, with cable modem. Too bad that broadband cable speeds don't seem to help when visiting RR these days.........
