Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2026 Apr 25 12:23 pm)
Something you did in Poser made Poser lock the libraries so you can't switch again. It could be clicking on a MAT file that couldn't find one of the textures. I've found sometimes Poser locks the libraries even if it finds what it's looking for. At least under XP/NTFS. If you save something to the figures library from Poser and later load it back in, the libraries sometimes get locked even though everything is found. Grrrrr.
It's quite probable that there's some incorrect references in the models you're using like spit said. Grab a copy of CorrectReference, run it & follow the instructions, then when it starts go watch a movie or something :) it'll probably take at least an hour. CorrectReference is available from Hogwardens site (damn where's that link got to?)
I have the same problem; I finally reinstalled Poser on an NTFS-formatted drive, as recommended to use PBooost, and I can switch banks once while a session of Poser is running, but that's it. sigh So if I have an idea of what I want to do, before I open Poser I go in and switch to the banks I'll want to access first. It's a pain. I was hoping the change to NTFS would solve the problem (Windows 2000Pro).
It drives me crazy too. Like it's next to impossible to put anything else in a scene with Vicky 3, or Koshini, who each have their own sets of folders, without going through hoops. And I keep my references pristine. You can, though, minimize Poser, and go in with Explorer (or PBoost actually) and move the folders you want from one bank to another. Kind of defeats the purpose of the banks but it works.
Hiya!! Sorry you're having problems! (need emoticons, too!) I'm 100% sure the problem lies in bad references in library files... and Poser/windows response to having to search for a referenced file involves code with a terrible memory-leak. This lock the folders. In your case, and many others who have constant locking up, I would look further a-field than just your texture references... I recently discovered that ALL the std Poser 4 male characters have an incorrect GEOMETRY reference in them... and, thx to certain parties who will remain nameless, CorrectReference doesn't yet fix those. The first place to start looking for such incorrect references is in the 'default' file loaded when Poser starts up. This is usually the Poser 2 Default Guy... but most people change it. Stick with it, y'all!! PBooost 1.4 (release) will help you identify ALL incorrect references from image pointers, geometry calls through to readScript lines. And as soon as PBooost 1.4 is on the shelves, I'll do CorrectReference Pro which will be 1000% cleverer than the current CR. Thx for your patience (if you have any left!!!)... I wish I could pop over and help sort out your problem as I am sure you should have 100% constant switchability. Howard:)
Hi Howard! I can't wait now...with even smarter versions of both those proggies, that should help a great deal. I find CorrectReference kind of confusing, so the smarter it is, the better off I'll be! anxiously awaiting announcements of PB1.4/CR 1.4 releases
A word of caution when using correct reference. If the missing texture is not exactly where it's supposed to be, the program will take the first texture of that name it finds. This can really be a pain if you're looking for an EYE texture named "black.jpg" and the first texture CR finds is a HORSE texture named "black.jpg" Found this one out the hard way. :) Kate

Why I am only allowed 1x to switch banks??? After I switch banks 1 time...I get the meesage saying poser has locked the files & must shut down...this is very annoying. And I do have switched banks displayed in the library window before attempting to switch. TIA
