Subject: DS Version 6(!) Alpha Released Today

Penguinisto ( ) posted Tue, 22 April 2025 at 1:41 PM · edited Sat, 21 March 2026 at 8:04 AM

From the site:

"Daz 3D is pleased to announce Daz Studio 2025 ALPHA - version 6.25.2025.11206!"

Assuming they're basing the version on the version of Qt (6) they're re-basing their UI on. Note that they're saying you'd better have NVIDIA 57x.x or newer drivers, and I suspect something like a RTX 2060 GPU (c. 2020) or newer may be required as well, but not sure about that last bit.

Don't have a spare box (or sufficient time) to play with it, but has anyone else had a chance to try it out yet?

The phrasing on the webpage says support for NVIDIA 57x.x.

So far, I haven't received availability acknowledgement on my DIM.

Naw the current hardware requirements are very low, I have a very low power NVidia GT1030 and it works fine. They seem to have removed preview lighting and left you with camera headlamp lighting only. Currently no plugins are working at all - this includes integrated plugin things like AniMate, Power Pose, and 3rd party stuff like Mesh Grabber. Really would like them to make some definitive statements about what plugins will be ported and what will not. Absolutely no reason to do anything with it at the moment beyond kicking the tires I guess.

You have to change the Download Filters setting to make it show you Release Channel Tags: Public Build before it will be visible.

Nope, nothing yet. All settings are correct. The only thing is, I am not a subscriber, just a user.

I'm not a subscriber either (way too expensive for me) so I have no idea why it wouldn't offer it to you, it's supposed to be open to the general public. Are you sure you have DIM set like this?

Yeah, call me when the Release Candidate is ready. I don't do beta testing, let alone fiddle with alphas. I do take betas for DS4, but that's a different situation - Daz seems to release betas in lieu of regular versions, and they're usually pretty stable. They often have bug fixes, new features, and other good stuff. I just watch to make sure there are no major problems before I download it. Also, I store the betas in their own folders and install them when/if desired. I'm still running 4.22, though I may finally install 4.23.

it's really just in a "kick the tires" state, I don't think they're even collecting any user feedback at this point. Richard is heroically trying to field a lot of forum posts, which is nice of him, but there's no "oh that's a real issue, go enter a ticket here so we can track that" kind of feedback collection.

I installed it on my mini computer. The mini computer really isn't the one I'd use for serious DAZ Studio work. It's the one setup on my recliner desk, and use most of the time.

I just wanted to satisfy my curiosity. I'll install it on my main desktop computer over the weekend.

That's good to hear, or not hear as the case may be pjz99. And it is an Alpha release. But I've been stung before, so like you ronaldknights, I'll test it out first on my laptop when it gets officially released. Don't know when but I suspect soon.

And I don't know how Richard does it frankly.

I'm just waiting for the unveil of Gen 10 cause if it is not back to being separate meshes, DAZ is toast.

Gohan, you might be waiting a while. Unless G10 brings something radically new to the table, I wonder if there's even a point of releasing a new base figure? There's only so many times people will ante up for buying the necessities to use another base figure, only so many times people will be willing to re-buy essentially the same things over and over. Plus, we don't have access to Daz sales numbers. It's impossible to say whether G9 has been a success compared to earlier models.

All we can really say is, G9 feminine gets the bulk of attention from vendors and the market is flooded with what we might as well call G9F products. Even if all of the available clothing will work on a g9 male character, that frequently results in a male character wearing women's clothing. There are people who want that, but other people might prefer more male clothing. But there will not be proportionally more male clothing because, as vendors have stated so may times, the female characters and clothing sell better and generate more revenue for the same amount of work. I doubt G10 will fix that.

True.  It just stupid that Vendors have to do MORE WORK than they should to make shit work with G9 when G2, G3, G8 and even G8.1 worked perfectly fine out of the gate.

Will I hope the next genesis figure has the eys like on the older ones so they morph with the face, for my sanity.
