Subject: What Do You Use Poser For?

EClark1894 ( ) posted Sun, 29 March 2015 at 10:25 PM · edited Sat, 01 June 2024 at 10:10 AM

I started with Poser 2 waaaaayyy back  when dinosaurs roamed the internet. I first bought it because I wantged to created a storyboard or graphic illustrations of the stories I was writing at the time. Oddly, enough, I have little to no time for much of that anymore. But I keep hoping one day I'll be able to get back to it.

But it made me wonder what many of you do with your copy of Poser? So what do you create with Poser?

I should also note that some of you may have enjoyed my web comic, Android. Interestingly, Android was written as a screenplay for a contest I entered several years ago. Sadly, I did not win. In case you've never read my web comic and would like to  the address is

http://clark.freehostia.com .

You'll find 24 issues of Android, and two issues of another comic I started, called Crickett McGuire. Let me know what you think. But more importantly, what are YOU using Poser for?

Well there are two main reasons for me.  The intention is to use Poser for illustrations for a book I am writing, friends have seen part of it but other then that whether it see the light of day is another story.  In addition I have produced the odd poster for friends, a lot of birthday and Christmas cards, and for a few years I produced Calendars.

The second really is more a challenge issue.  Now I am retired I need something to stretch me mentally.  Playing with materials to get a desired effect I find difficult but mentally stimulating, even if I never achieve the intended material I have still gone through the mental process

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

Animation! Bring a story scene to life, and watch it dance. Some storyboarding. Illustrations.

I've always wanted to do graphics of some kind. I tried 2d painting but since I can't draw to save my life so that didn't work. Poser seemed like a good alternative. For a long time it was therapy. I have borderline personality disorder and poser was a great help with that, keeping my mind off the negative. I currently use it for illustrating my novels that I'll probably never publish.

ps I enjoyed Android and would like to enjoy Cricket Mcguire. It looks good so far.

For me ... I've been an artist all my life.  (story goes I started at 2 with a ballpoint pent and a "rainbow" pad drawing feet and dogs cuz that's all I could see). I have a visual impairment and have always needed some sort of aide to see.  When I didn't have live models from school. (see first illustration) I still needed "models".  Viola!  Poser.  That expanded, evolved and shifted over the years.  Now Poser is an art-form in it's own right and a tool as well.

Wow, Boni, those are good. I bought a couple of books on pencil drawing once, and did pretty good. Had a sketch pad and everything. Then I found Poser and haven't picked up a drawing pencil or sketchpad since.

BTW, RP, I promise one day soon I'll get back to Cricket. :)

My visual focus has shifted (somewhat literally after cataract surgery) and I haven't done any pencil work in quite a while.  I miss it.  But am working on ways around it.  I have a CCTV hook up on my computer than allows me to draw and see what I'm drawing on my computer.  I'm still getting the hang of that.   But everyone ... carry on I want to see what you all have to say. :)

P.S. Please show us examples.  We are a visual lot you know.

Thanks, I've actually already done most of the third story. I stopped though because modeling was taking up most of my time.

COMICS!!!!

I have a love for that particular medium and lots of 2d drawings of costume designs and with Poser (Started with Poser 1, still have the floppies!) I could see what they'd look like in 3d.

Had lotsa fun trying to match props to the costume designs on paper for belts, masks, etc.

These days, for setting up and testing the models I make.  I love making stuff and while I'm improving my skills in that department, I use the results as a way of giving back to this wonderful community.

One day I may go back to making pictures for their own sake but for now I'm having too much fun making things and rigging Mechmaster's stuff.

I've always been into different arts & crafts fer as long as I can 'member...

Originally I tried Poser for a certain hobby I used to be engaged in (under a differnt name) which entailed taking pictures of celebrities into Photoshop & putting their heads on different body pics. Someone mentioned using it to facilitate getting that "elusive pose" & getting lighting to match that in the celeb photo, so I figgered "WTF" & gave it a try. I was immediately hooked, but somewhat ironically to date I've used it perhaps 3X fer that originally intended purpose. Got distracted by all the great stuff available for Poser, & taken w/ my previous love of scale model building (particularly the kitbashing aspect) started takin' a bit from here, a bit from there, the wings off this, the hair off that, & smashin' it all into somethin' unique. Later I got into 3D modelling for those occasions I couldn't find "just the right bit" I was lookin' fer (although thas been a much longer & more painful road). Now I've gotten to the point where I can use Poser to showcase my humble attempts at modelling.

And of course, there's the chatroom here that has really kept me involved... whether through challenges, dares, ideas, or just silly conversations that make me say to meself "HEY! That'd be good fer a laugh!".

All in all, I do it fer the fun  :D

For me ..Animation!!

Presonal 3D films and forensic accident recreation for Laws firms here in the greater New York Area

I use Poser as My CG Character plugin for Maxon Cinema 4D

Via the interposer Pro Plugin.

Since poser has always been very good at accepting BVH motion file from various sources

I have now integrated Real Illusions Iclone pro as My "Motionbuilding" app and retarget  the motion to my favorite

poser figures,

I also use the discontinued Natural Motions "Endorphin" for my Ragdoll simulation to create Ragdoll BVH for Poser figures

I also use poser pro for Morph to clothing transfer and figure tweaking with the morph brush

Although posers native Character animation tools are not

useful for my creation work anymore,

poser remains a vital tool in my CG pipeline.

I got Poser 5 for game design and resulting animation, then P7, P9, and now PP2014GD.  All I need now is to actually get on with it. :)

I got Poser to recreate scenes of normal life, but all the clothing now being made is for what I could only describe as cheap prostitutes.

I'm truly sick of scrolling through all the slut-ware.

I use it to make characters that everyone complains about not being another character from another company. :) I'm joking but not really. I use Poser everyday to make new content for the next version or versions of Poser. It's my day job.

I use poser to flesh out my children's book scenes.  Nothing published yet, but you never know. There's something about seeing an image in your head and then making it in 3d. I also use it for product demo type commercials. My true love is animation, but it's so time consuming even on a fast computer.

It's maddening and fun at the same time. If you can't find the right prop, you can improvise. (I recently made a prayer kneeler out of the bench prop.)

I wish I had more time to learn poser. I ask a lot of questions in here and people are always so nice enough to help me. Can't thank you all enough.

Fantasy porn... it doesn't care to me if others think its terrible...  In fact I belong to several groups who use poser for that reason.
