Subject: Poser 8 SR3, Windows 7 Pro, Library won't load

JenX ( ) posted Tue, 13 May 2014 at 11:08 AM · edited Sat, 14 March 2026 at 3:15 AM

I finally re-installed Poser 8, and now, I'm running into problems. Well, the only specific problem is that, regardless of uninstalling and re-installing flash and updating the program to SR3, the library is blank, and when I hover my mouse over it, it is the loading pointer.

The firewall is set to allow Poser to access everything, and I don't know what else to check for. I've also searched the archives looking for all threads about the P8 library, and then did one looking for posts by bagginsbill for more info. Neither search turned up what I'm looking for in less than 8 pages (Yes, I went through the first 8 pages). And I'm kind of exhausted from looking for the answer, lol. Any help would be wonderful.

There was a thread about this but I can not find it now.  The most likley problem is you or microsoft installed IE 11 on your system.  If that is the case, the only thing that you can do, that I know of, is uninstall IE11.  It is incompatable with Poser 8.

thanks, willyb53. That didn't work, unfortunately, not even after rebooting.

Do I need to install flash from another location, or reinstall an older version of IE?

I really can not remember.  There were sticky threads both here and at RDNA but they have all disappeard.  I blocked  the IE update (microsoft provides a way), but not sure about what to do after it has happened.

I googled Poser 8 IE 11 and found this.

SM says "You can look into uninstalling Internet Explorer 11 and reinstalling an older version of Internet Explorer (versions 7-10 should work fine) to get the embedded library working again."

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

In one of those threads, one forum member explained how to roll the installation of IE11 back to whatever version of IE a user previously had on his or her system before the update.  I rolled back to IE9 and P8 began working again.  The old IE installation is still there somewhere after the update, able to be restored.  Windows then needs to be prevented from automatically updating to IE11 again.  In my case, I've begun manually authorizing updates rather than allow Windows to decide what I need and when I need it.

I guess that rough outline is pretty useless without the specifics.   The process worked for me and others.  It can be done.  Weird that Rosity would take down the threads relating to the matter, as this is fairly important stuff.  😕

No one took them down, they've just been buried. If you posted in any of them then you should be able to search your own posts and find them.

This is a fairly new build of Windows (I got this laptop in December), so IE 11 looks to have been the version my husband installed when he put it together for me. I didn't have where to actually uninstall IE 11, but I did disable it. I'm going to wait the couple hours (because why not?) to have him help me make sure it's completely uninstalled before installing IE 9, and having a go. Thanks, you guys. I really appreciate the help. :)

Fair enough, but I was thinking of the sticky thread on the topic, which seems to have been un-stickied.  I think that's where the working solution was posted, and I don't seem to have posted to that thread.  I was instructed to look at that stickied thread for help, at one point, but directions were given not using a URL but using that thread's sticky status as a point of reference.  Sort of wish I'd bookmarked the thread, now.   I may need to try to duplicate the same fix in the future, and I'd like to know where the instructions are.
