Look at the edges of the object... this is a bumo map or a normal map, not really a modeled thing, its only a half sphere.

Thanks, Yeah you're right, the outer surface is smooth. I think the texture is happening on the inside surface. How would I begin to go about using a bump map to get this look? I'm using Cararra 5, if that makes a difference. Editing and creating shaders in Cararra has always been my weakest point with the program.
Thanks, I appreciate it.

Hi Neoprimitive,
There is a fundemental limitation with Carrara from doing what you want – that is, Carrara only creates one type of sphere which is a quad-based sphere with triangles at the poles. By it's very design, the UV coordinates get pinched at the top as evidenced by GKDantas render.
The way to prevent this is to create a sphere made of a polyhedron instead. In other programs, I've found the UV coords to map very well. In Carrara, a polyhedron UV will still need to be adjusted a bit to work well without distortion.
So, if you want to export an alternate sphere in Rhino for mapping in Carrara, it's a reasonable thing to do.

Hi, I'm new to the forums. I use rhino 3d and Carrara for all of my 3D projects. I'm trying to model and solar skylight.
And I'm having a hard time figuring out how achieve the pattern on the glass dome in this photo. I'm trying to figure this out in Rhino but no luck so far. So I figured maybe Carrara could do it. Any ideas on how I could do this in Carrara?
Thanks
