Subject: Vue 6 Infinite VS Vue 7 Complete

Tomsde ( ) posted Fri, 23 October 2009 at 8:47 PM · edited Fri, 27 February 2026 at 12:41 PM

The price of the upgrade was prohibitive so I just purchased Vue 7 complete.  I must say that after having Vue 6 Infinite and 'vue 5 Infinite I am a bit dissapointed in Complete.  I thought that the interface and object tranlation objects would be practically the same only in the "old" Vue style--but I was wrong.  I really feel as if I significantly downgraded; so a word of warning--it might be better to stick with Vue 6 Inf. rather than doing this "sidegrade".  There are also significantly fewer atmosphere choices.

I probably would have saved up for Vue 7 Inifinite (by the time I had enough money Vue 8 would have been out) than done this again.

You might consider returning Vue 7 Complete. I too purchased it and was disappointed. I returned mine. Something else you might want to consider, you will lose your upgrade option to Vue 7 Infinite or Vue 8 Infinite if you choose the Vue Complete option. I keep hoping I'll eventually get the money to upgrade mine again. At least by Vue 10 Infinite!

Well there is an upgrade path to Vue 8 Infinite from Vue 6 Infinit according to the email I received the day after I ordered Vue 7 Complete.  I was going to return it unopened by they were going to charge me a 15% restocking fee to do so.   If I ever had to pay the full price for that I'd never be able to afford it again.  I think it's sad that the upgrade price for Inf. is close to what I paid for Vue 5 Infinite when I first bought it.  They should really cut upgraders more slack; but now that they're using Vue to make movies that probably ruined it for us hobbiests by making it a Maya level application.  It's almost like going back to Vue d'Espirit again.

I chose the download version so I didn't have a restocking fee charge. I didn't know they charged that. As far as I know, you can upgrade from one version of Infinite to another but there isn't an upgrade path from Complete to Infinite. Again, that's AFAIK. Things might have changed since I purchased mine. Even at the upgrade price, I can't afford it currently. I'm getting left further and further behind. The economy might not be bad elsewhere, but it is here with no end in sight. $300 will buy a lot of groceries!

This is what the Vue 8 email said:

Upgrades from Vue 6: If you are a user of Vue 6, you can upgrade directly to the corresponding Vue 8 product! (for instance, upgrade from Vue 6 Esprit to Vue 8 Esprit, or from Vue 6 Pro Studio to Vue 8 Studio, etc...). You can also sidegrade from Vue 6 Pro Studio directly to Vue 8 Complete. If you are still using Vue 6 Infinite you can either upgrade to Vue 8 Infinite, or choose the cost effective Vue 8 Complete alternative.

*These upgrade options will not be time limited.

*Actually it's a staggering $435 for the box Vue 7 Inf and $395 for the DVD case or download version--you're right it would be a lot of groceries (money is tight all around).  I've spent more money on Vue than any other program I've owned and have not used it enough to make it worth that kind of money.  My computer is finally up to specs where it would work better for me; but unfortunately I'm 32 bit and I pale at the idea of reinstalling a clean Windows right now just so I can use Vue better.  Heck for $435 you could buy a new laptop now-a-days.

I took the one way step of sidegrading from 6 Infinite to Complete when it was first released and I can't say I have regretted doing so. The upgrade costs for the Infinite line became prohibitive and as I don't see my finances improving in the foreseeable future I went for the cheaper option. I don't find Complete to be a hindrance to my workflow and have found the differences to be either trivial or those that I don't use anyway.  Its sad that I had to give up my rights to ever upgrading back to the Infinite line but unless I were to win the lottery there is no way I could afford to do so anyway - Trouble is, I don't do the lottery (lol).

Rids I feel your pain.  I think I can get used to Complete too.  I don't see myself being able to afford Inf. any time soon either--I guess graphics professionals can write it off as buisness expense.

I think I will get used to it; I'll try installing Poser 7 to use with it and see if it improves Poser import.

I've got the money for an upgrade from Vue 7 Infinite to Vue 8 Infinite. Trouble is that if I spend the money on Vue, then something else misses out. I need a new Refrigerator, and my Apartment desperately needs painting, so I'm going to have to give this upgrade a miss.

It's not only Vue itself but I'll need to get the new SkinVue that will undoubtedly come out and so it goes on. For me Vue has become a bottomless money pit.   :-(

It certainly seems like they crank out the new versions quickly these days!  Not having used Vue 7 Complete much yet, I don't know if there are bugs that haven't been resolved or anything yet.  If they are going to put out new versions so quickly I wish early adopters could get a better deal at least on an upgrade.

its that sucking money sound leaving your wallet. I'm still at 6 Pro Studio and was hoping 7 Complete would go on sale, but suppose I could go for Pro again and buy the ecopainting and Zephyr modules.
