Subject: replacing one Pz3 with another

estherau ( ) posted Sat, 11 March 2006 at 5:45 AM · edited Tue, 14 July 2026 at 10:56 AM

Hi, I changed a prop in the pz3 buty of course when I updated carara pic the prop hasn't changed in carrara as that is what happens with transposer (it even says this in the manual that props can't be added to the pz3). But I would like my new prop change included, so can Ijust change the pz3 for another or will I have to import the pz3 then move it to the position of the old one then delete the old one? Love esther

Hi, esther. There's more than one way to accomplish that. If I understand you correctly I think I'd probably just save a pz3 with the new prop within Poser and then open it in Carrara. If you don't want to do that because maybe you've already done a lot of work on the file within Carrara then I think I'd just save a pz3 with nothing but the new prop from within Poser and then import that into your Carrara scene and reposition it. I frequently have two pz3's open in Carrara and so far it's worked fine.

"...wondering if i could imort the pz3 into the approximate samre spot..." When you say, "the pz3" I assume you mean the prop. I end up doing this little routine under similar circumstances quite a lot: 1 -- With the pz3 containing your 'old' prop open in Carrara, import your 'new' prop by whatever method you prefer. 2 -- With the 'old' prop selected go to the Motion tab of the Assemble Room and click on the "HP>obj" button. 3 -- Select the 'new' prop and do the same as step two. 4 -- Make note of the x, y and z coordinates of the 'old' prop (the topmost set of numbers in the "Transform" window of the Motion tab). 5 -- Select the 'new' prop and enter the values you noted in step 4. 6 -- Delete the 'old' prop. There are times when you won't want to mess with the hot point (the HP>obj button) but most of the time it probably won't matter. Make backups before you do anything, as always ;)

...in fact, I end up doing that routine often enough that I'd like to make a feature request. hehe. Would it be a hassle for Eovia to add copy/paste functionality to trans/rot/scale values (values only, not the actual object) to pass from one object to another? Or is it there and I haven't found it?

yeah or even a button that puts one objects hot point (with the object 0 int o the same spot as anothers. in fact i thoughtthat's what hot point to object was meant to do. big disappointment. i have prop hair so when i change the pose of the person i want to change the hair then bring it back into carrara. love esther
