Subject: Need advice help...scene overload :(

dlk30341 ( ) posted Mon, 30 January 2006 at 6:14 PM · edited Mon, 13 July 2026 at 5:23 PM

The scene I'm working on has gone boom...mem errors....I've tried to load & render 4 full Elfen items(citadel & overlook) by Winston here in the MP. Well, Carrara didn't like it not 1 bit..... Now is there a way to render just a selected item so I can add in postwork??? In order to keep placement & lighting. Another words something similiar to Vue where you could render just a selected items or layer for later post. Thanks :)

I"m sure my answer is not the best, but I'd look into setting up lighting and camera - placement like you wrote, and then choose a background color that you can select and omit in post (photoshop) or use an alpha channel to crop out background. What kind of items are you talking about? They must be very complex, or there is a corrupted file somewhere? Good luck.

Never Give Up!

All the Elfen stuff...trees & all. No corruption...I've deleted 1 thing at a time to determine what was causing the problem...I can only load 1 full & then overload....I've tried using some alphas but they have these huge grey boxes & I can't see anything else for further scene placement.

How about hiding things. Is your problem at render or at load?

No need to think outside the box....
    Just make it invisible.

Problem is loading & rendering......How do you hide things? When I import, it says it's importing & then done, but the items never comes in.

Thanks.

PS. I'm closing to thinking the whole scene is corrupt. I just opened a new pic & loaded both heacy items & it rendered albeit slow to start. I just can't tell anymore :(. I've been at this for 8+hours today & ready ot pull all my hair out :(.

Edited...figured out to hide things :)

ahhh. Well to hide from render uncheck visible. However, you have to get it in first. I had that happen on bvh on the demo.Maybe check your import settings like scale etc... Maybe it is an incompatible format or version of a format. Can you open it elsewhere? Yeah I have a problem w/ primivol and 3d shaders I am trying to work thru. It ain't fun.You need your hair I am sure. :D

Sorry for late reply, had to go to bed LOL Yes I can open elsewhere. Thanks for your help...I think this gives me a plan w/out having to start over :)

Try/make sure:
Remove unused master shaders & objects (Edit Menu).
Try rendering using the batch option (start C5Pro, go right to render room & load via batch option -- don't load scene in Assembly Room). This uses a bit less RAM when rendering.
If you are using the new volumetric clouds; there is a known problem with them that Eovia is working on -- memory allocation errors.

Thanks LC will try these out when I get home from work. Nope no clouds...just a relistic sky.

Glad to help. Hope it works. LCBoliou makes some good suggestions. Take the time to make shortcuts for those 2 options that are only on the menu(removing unused shaders and objects).I did ctrl+shift+S and O accordingly. Those aren't taken and since Ringo told me that option was there and I made the shortcuts, I use it all the time. Otherwise there is ALOT of trash left in the file. Are these obj w/ mtl's or what?

Actually, I meant ctrl+alt+S and O. The others are taken.

The are ALL Poser imports w/textures :)

mmoir ( ) posted Wed, 01 February 2006 at 12:23 PM

Have you tried removing the unused master objects, if you have tried importing figures then deleted them several times you may have a bunch of master objects which could make your file much bigger than necessary. First make a copy of your file and rename, open this renamed copy and in the assembly room try Edit/Remove Unused masters/remove unused objects. You can remove the unused shaders too Mike

Thanks did that last night...problem is scene is just TOO bog, it's around 984MB according to what C5P specs say in render area....anyway...rendering the scene back to front to composite elsewhere :)

mmoir ( ) posted Wed, 01 February 2006 at 1:46 PM

984Mb, that seems way to big. I looked at the Citadel object and overlook items you were talking about and it doesn't look that complex.(10&15Mb respectively) It must be the importing that is blowing the size up . BTW,when you remove unused master objects be sure to save your file, then reopen the file . Then check the size of the file . Good Luck, and look forward to seeing the image when it is done. Mike

FYI - the Citadel & Overlook are fully loaded onto the rocks that have trees & shrubs...so its EVERYTHING you see on that link page that I have in the pic..... So: 2 of the rock formation - bushes shrubs only 2 of the same rock formations - FULLY LOADED including buildings 2 Curios Ents The Elfen bridge 20 plots of grass(surface replicator) 8 lights 4 birch trees Still to add 1 dragon & M3 - dressed ;) Don't get your hopes on the pic Mike...I'm not that good with fantasy, better at nature...just needed a switch ;P
