Subject: is there an easy click way to increase V3 shinyness

estherau ( ) posted Sat, 21 January 2006 at 8:19 PM · edited Tue, 14 July 2026 at 3:50 AM

I get a long layer list but I would just like to make the skin more shiny. Do I have to change each layer individually? Love esther

HI, from the layer only edit the ones for the body skin and the head skin. The two channels that you need to edit from both of them are the Highlight and Shininess channels.

But tcan't find just one channel for body and one for head, there are layers for hand, foot, leg, neck etc, do I have to change each of these one at a time? Love esther

oh bummer I guess that is how Vickies textures are compose. I'm afraid you will have to do each one. but here is a something that will save you a bit of work. Once you have set the highlights value for one part you can copy that channel and paste the value to the other parts. C5 allows you to that, it was not possible in C4.

You know this bugs me too. I hope there is a better way, however, I will mention that swap could probably help here also DCG(not sure there, maybe shaderops). Also if you adjust each similiar shader say for liris you can then paste or dragndrop that onto the corresponding level of the shader for riris. The shaders for the most part are redundant.I am playing w/ obj import from daz and merging groups in hopes of eliminating this. When you delete an import gone bad or remove an obj it is annoying to have to deal w/ the shaders left...should most definitely be an option for this. Oh and you should be able to save the whole setup for the figure as a preset too.

Between that and no alphas coming in...it's quite annoying to fool with so many textures. Might want to try the merge groups options on obj import...sometimes this can help.

ren. If you delete an object in carrara the Master shader stay, you can remove those master shaders real easy. Under the Edit menu look for "remove unused master" and remove the master shaders. just that simple.

Thanks Ringo. Carrara is a bit awkward with how somethings are menu only. I use the tabbed pullout like most. However, I just made custom kb shortcuts for both, remove master shaders and options. I need to look thru the menu for items that I will need that are menu only...sure it will come up again. However, would still be nice for a dialog prompt to come up that ask about deleting shaders or objects if you delete an instance that it was tied to w/ an option to always do this or ask.Simple and useful.
