Subject: rendering farm help

dueyftw ( ) posted Sat, 14 January 2006 at 9:11 PM ยท edited Mon, 13 July 2026 at 2:57 AM

I just got my Carrara 5 Pro box and tried to setup a rendering farm. I have one alienware at 2.1 GHz, Compaq at 2 GHz and ten 866 Mhz Pentiums 3's. Carrara will only render on five (I know I will have to pay for extra nodes). The problem is that it sends the scene to five of them but doesn't send the poser content. Only 1 renders the poser and the rest render the background. (an avi movie). When I play back the animation the poser content is only on one block in one frame.

Suggestions?

Dale

Have you got the latest patch from a week or 2 ago. Here are the fixes; Carrara 5.0.2 Update Features and Fixes Below you will find a list of bugs that have been fixed: Poser Native Importer: Error while converting Poser figure to vertex object Problem finding textures Problem when conforming figure (message: incompatible figures) Problem importing "Skeleton Man.crz" TransPoser (Pro Only): Crash when importing a scene containing an IBL light Network Rendering: figures imported with TransPoser are not rendered on the render nodes Replicator: Problem with shadows when rendering replicated objects in the batch queue Surface replicator: problem when replicating on an object inside a group Object replicator preview doesn't match the rendered image Shading Room: Problem with shader selection menu Unstacking a lighting model generates an error shading room: using a terrain distribution shader on a deformed object crashes the preview. Misc Smooth Objects Scene command: should not affect volumetric primitives Graph editor: create key frame in the mini-graph doesn't update the ui Matchmoving: importing a Syntheye file referencing a movie with a number of digits different than 3 makes the import fail Forces in particles - transformation of force give unpredictable results Vertex Modeler: Crash when scaling a vertex object Duplicated objects will not attach to the bones Error message appears when performing 3D boolean operation with a deformed object Dual monitors: Windows cannot be moved to the top of the secondary monitor Mac Os X: Some custom shortcuts are not reloaded from the preferences. Saving 16 bits displacement map internally does not work Crash when pressing play with OpenGL enabled

I don't know if this is the problem or not. Are you importing with Transposer or native import? The Transposer bug was supposedly fixed.

I think the problem is that the source machine is so much faster then the rendering machines. I don't want it rendering, I normally have Carrara and Poser open at the same time. Before the network computers wasn't rendering any of the Poser content. Now the they render about half. I'm becoming very disappointed with Carrara's network, no control to which computers will render and no real time monitoring. Dale
