Subject: Video training

Sorry about being such a pest, but I have another question. Has anybody seen the training videos from VTC and if you have what do you think about them? I guess that was two questions.

It's OK and it is the only video training available. I would say it is like the video version of Visual QuickStart. It doesn't take you through any projects but it shows you most of the tools and how to use them. Then, like the Visual QuickStart books, its up to you to put the pieces together and build something. The only other resource for Carrara is a book with projects to build but it is for Carrara 3 not 4. If you do decide to get it skip the airplane tutorial or go to 3dxtract forums on how to complete it. It is a very poorly written project. I surprised it hasn't been completely rewritten yet. Other than that its the internet picking tutorials here and there. Most are free till you get to 3dxtract which charges a fee. But I believe this month you can get a free issue. Good luck and check back with any questions...

I agree: "OK", is about all one can say. It follows the manual pretty closely, and where the manual goes into detail, he does too. And where it doesn't...

The guy doing the presentation seems to be speaking extemporeanously, stumbles over his words too often [don't know why he didn't take the time to edit those out] and, in general, the discs seem to be cobbled together by someone in his living room, on a weekend.

I bought the discs hoping to get a good grounding on bones. Which was not forthcoming. Still, if you've really got your training wheels on with Carrara, it will do you no harm, and the price, as I recall, was moderate.

I will be releasing a series of videos on texturing relatively soon. To be released (hopefully) through 3dxtract. Will be about an hour and a half of me talking:) covering everything from modeling and texturing a head, to domains and some basic and advanced shader creation. A fair amount of info. Not sure on the price. But less then the VLC, and you'll likely get much more out of them. I found the VLC videos lacking. Just when I saw it getting interesting he'd stop. Brian

I saw the Cararra 3 video. The guy's voice reminds me of some comic actor whos name doesn't come to mind. The video will get you knowledgeable pretty quick, Where this guy goes wrong is he will tell you when he could of showed you. I was yelling at the screen to shut up and show me what you mean. I would of liked it if he had got into some more interesting projects. He messes around with spheres too much. I don't know if I would want to buy the CD for Carrara 4. I would recommend it to beginners. Its the only game in town... for now.
