Hi everyone i just got Poser5 and i like to try out the reflection. I tried the above tutorial but without succes. I have everything with same settings and colors. Only differens i see i that i don't have the black and white gradient preview instead i have a bulb kind preview see image. What can i be doing wrong? Thanks in advanced. Sprinter PS If you know places with great tutorials for Poser5 feel free to post or send me links :)

What's shown in the preview is affected by your current lighting set-up, and your image above looks like the default 3 tone Poser lighting. Looking at the first couple of images in the tutorial (and the comment about rendering taking a long time with a lot of lights and shadows on the last page) it looks like mobius was using a global illumination light set, which produces a much more even effect (hence the slight gradient in the texture preview). However, this shouldn't stop reflections from working. Both PoserPros.com and Runtimedna.com have Poser 5 specific forums. You can also find some useful info on the ShaderMaker forum at Pixels3D [link above], because that is the underlying technology behind P5 materials. Hope this helps. Mark

While i'm here this might sound like a dumb question to the more advanced users of Poser5. What did i do wrong the square i only changed object color no texture aplied and did same reflection settings as the flag. Where does the strange looking texture come from? Sprinter

Try connecting the displacement node of the square to any texture at something like 0.001 and that should stop it. P5 doesn't seem to like the square.

raven ( ) posted Tue, 05 August 2003 at 9:53 AM

You would have to make sure displacement is enabled in the render options.

Can I use your image for my FAQ? It's acutally an excellent example for question #1.

I noticed this happens with the square using regular texture-maps as well. My solution: Used the hi-res square and the problem went away. So, perhaps we should say: P5 doesn't like the low-res square.

stewer ( ) posted Tue, 05 August 2003 at 4:26 PM

No, that's not it. The problem is not that the square has a low resolution but that it's double-sided. The single sided square doesn't show this error, the hi-res square is also single sided.

Ahhhh ... ok, I see. Well that makes sense. Thanks for the info!
