Entry #160

THE HOUSE AT THE END OF THE BLOCK SOFTWARE USED: Poser 8 and Photoshop CS3 Time: approx. 12 hours render and postwork/ about a month developing concept Inspiration: I grew up in a somewhat depressed area of Memphis, TN. At the end of our street there was a house that fascinated my young imagination. It remained empty for years and it was nestled against what we called a Bijou, a hybrid natural/manmade pond loved by birds and mosquitoes -- and young kids. The adults thought that the pond was too dangerous for us to play around, so it was off limits, which, of course, made it irresistible! The house itself was odd for our area. It was made of blue/gray stone with arched stained glass windows and sat amidst magnolia trees and azalea bushes with wisteria vines so tall and thick that they draped over part of the roof and spilled over the side of the bijou. In a neighborhood that consisted of mostly nondescript modern houses with one ranch and a couple of old antebellum mansions that had seen better days, this place stood out! To my young mind, it looked like something straight out of, "The Hound of the Baskervilles" or "Wuthering Heights"! I used to wonder about the people that built it, and what kind of people would choose to inhabit it again. Given the fact that it remained empty and to its proximity to the forbidden bijou, it gained a reputation with the neighborhood kids. Some swore it was haunted, and going up to ring the doorbell or peep into the windows during Halloween week became a rite of passage. When I saw the intro description for this contest, it brought this back to me. It would have been a perfect place to become home to "something" on a foggy Halloween night. I could imagine a long black limousine creeping slowly toward its new home, its' dark tinted windows hiding "God knows what" within!
