This is the second of a series of articles/interviews with people who work behind the scenes at Renderosity. These often unsung heroes work hard to make sure Renderosity not only looks great, but runs efficiently. Each month we will feature the "Faces of Renderosity" and introduce you to some amazing people who try to make your experience at Renderosity.com the very best it can be.
Willyb53 is a tester at Renderosity. He's been a Renderosity member since 2007. He has a gallery which is slowly growing and is a Renderosity Exclusive vendor with a speciality in Poser products (cars in particular). We spoke with Willyb53 about his background as an artist and his working methods. We also have a video which features several of his store and gallery creations.
Meet Willyb53
Renderosity: Can you tell us about your background? What do you do at Renderosity?
Willyb53: Hi, Background: Viet Nam Veteran, have a degree in Math with minor in Physics I went to school on the G.I.bill, and I was a programmer for various software development companies for 30 years.
I started computer graphics in the late 1980's With an Amiga and have been doing them ever since, and started using Poser with Poser 7. I was a tester at RDNA until they closed, and started testing at Renderosity a little more than 2 years ago
I primarly test in poser, with Vue and DS as needed. during testing I check everything from the readme, file structure and verify that everything works correctly. I have various free items on Sharecg.
You have some great cars in your marketplace shop. Tell us about them.
Willyb53: On the cars (Budget series), I once lost an illustration job because I did not have the right year/models to complete the job. I started collecting every vehicle (prop of figure) and learned how to convert the props to figures and re-texturize them. I decided to find a way to provide usable vehicles for as low a price as possible. (You can not have too many cars :D )
Tell us about your creative process. What tools do you use?
Willyb53: Creative process: I love solving problems :D Most of what I do is because there is nothing available that would work for whatever I am working on at the time. When working on something new, I usually look for new/different general solutions to the problem. My flame tool at Renderosity is an example. I designed it to be useful in most cases where a flame was needed, a candle flame, dragon breath, fireball, torch flame etc.
Tools: Hexagon, uvmapper, roadkill, blacksmith3d, carrara and poser. As part of the challenge for me, I try to use Poser for everything it can do.
I love poser, and even after using it for 10 years, there are still things I want to learn and be able to do with it
