Susan Justice, who is known as Sveva (pronounced "Svayva”) to the Renderosity community, is a consistent creator of 3D figure assets, 3D models and 2D graphics in a wide range of software options.
From her love of birds to the untimely death of her daughter and how that impacted her, Sveva shared a glimpse of her life and what inspires her to create digital masterpieces.
Sveva has a long love of art that began when she was “a wee little lass” but didn’t get hooked on digital art until 2003. Over the years, she has designed many different items in many different styles, not staying in one niche.
Overall, she said her favorite things to create are clothing models and add-ons for clothing, which can be seen in the multitude of textures and materials for sale in her store, along with lighting and fantasy backgrounds.
Sveva, who joined Renderosity in 2003 and just became an exclusive vendor, took some time out of her schedule at her home in South Carolina, where she lives with her husband and two sons, to answer a few questions about herself and her art.
How long have you been designing and why did you start?
Sveva: I’ve been drawing since I was a wee little lass, but really I went to college for two years traditional art school in 1998, and I also worked at an art gallery making jewelry and creating, however, I found DeviantArt sometime around 2003 or so, and then came across Renderosity. I realized everything I wanted to do could be done on my computer such as painting, digital photo manipulation, etc.
What’s your favorite software to create with?
Sveva: Currently my main toolbox contains Daz Studio, & Photoshop, but I also use C4D, Blacksmith, Poser, and some others.
What inspires your creations?
Sveva: Life. Every day things, fantasy, hiking, art, my kids, video games, TV, movies, things I like... really inspiration comes from all around us!
What is your favorite thing to design?
Sveva: Well, I love to create a variety of things, I prefer working for myself mostly, or my partner, I like to create clothing. I like to create lighting and images for backgrounds, and I like to texture. I like to make whatever I'm in the mood to make.
What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
Sveva: Hrmm well, I think by now everyone knows I have six chickens, three parrots, and a young cardinal we rescued last year, a lot of people have me added on Facebook and I talk about my birds a lot.
I also think just about everyone knows my 18-year-old daughter passed away in September 2014 as well as her son who was stillborn in March 2014. It has been a rough few years but I am still hanging on.
My family enjoys taking cruises, it is our new favorite holiday. I work from home every day, all day and I enjoy working, so when people say I need to take a break I usually think, "take a break from what?" It is what I love, most of the time it is not a "job" to me. Maybe most people do not understand that part?!
What do you drew you to birds?
Sveva: I have always loved birds. I have never been a dog person nor much of a cat person. My family and I we are highly allergic to dogs and cats. I don't much care for barking either. (she chuckled) I know many people love dogs but I just don't, to each their own. Many people don't like birds, that's fine by me.
Losing your daughter had to have been a terrible experience. How has it changed your life?
Sveva: I don't take much crap any longer. I never liked drama; and now I really really don't like drama. I don't involve myself in it, life is too short. I don't care what people think of me or what I do.
Too many people involve themselves in others lives or spreading things about other people. I don't bother in this. I am who I am, I take care of my kids, my family, I do what I want, create what I want, I don't live for others I live for myself and my children.
If I want something I work for it and I go out and get it. I believe in working hard and playing harder. I try to always be there for those I love and I try to always do right by my kids.
